Building a Sick PC (On a Budget) - Page 4

I'd consider going with the previous poster's PSU suggestion, I ordered the same one from newegg (brand new) for $90 (with a $30MIR).

It's a modular PSU so it's great for cable management, it's a cheap realiable PSU...AND! it gives you plenty of room to upgrade and add all of your misc. junk later on. (more is always better if you can get it for less)

Just order my MOBO and I have decided to stick with DDR2. I went with a better chipset than I had previously wanted, and opted out of CFing. Hopefully it should be here Thursday or Friday........

And there will be plenty of pictures!

Yes I'm sorry I meant lower than the one I had wanted when I first started the build. At 14, the 785G and 795 were still a bit out of my price range....

IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG MY FRIENDS!

I have finally order the last of my components and everything that you see in my signature is the final and official!

If your wondering why I went with a Dual Core, it is because my friend, with identical components, successfully unlocked this CPU to a Quad @ 3.2GHz. I plan on doing the same and maybe bumping it to 3.5Ghz, so I opted towards the AM cooler.

When all that is done then I will post some pics! But the cooler is gonna be here for a while so the stocker will just have to do at first.....

Quick question: Could I still unlock my 555BE to a x4 BEFORE my AM cooler get here? What kind of temps would I expect to see? It would only be for 1.5 weeks max.

Thanx for all your help guys!

Well I mean it all just depends on if you need extra volts to keep it stable to be honest.

Hi,

Don't want to sound stupid, but how on earth would it be possible to mod a CPU to unlock x2 more cores, i mean if this was the case and its just a simple mod, why are they selling them at a lower cost as dual core CPU's when internally they are actually quad core... this is really strange, if they can afford to design a quad core cpu and disable two cores - whats the logic in it?

Can someone explain, i just dont understand why a company would do this, if its a dual core then my understanding is that its got two cores... if its a quad core - then it has got 4 cores, its like buying a car with 2 turbos but one is disabled, this wouldnt be possible and would be very stupid!

Someone explain for me please lol.

Originally the idea is that you make a bunch of quad core chips, test them all and the ones that have a problem with one of the cores you simply lock the faulty core, label it an X3 chip and sell it anyway.

The reason lots of people are getting chips that they can unlock is that AMD are not only locking faulty cores, but taking good quad core dies and locking cores to give dual and tri core chips to meet market demand.
