My sisters comp is pretty old. Some kind of hp with windows 98 on it.I just replaced her mother board and now windows wont boot I can go into safe mode but not normal start up.What files are causing the problem?I really dont want to have to reassemble her old pc.It has to be a driver issue from the old mb how do I correct this.

A rule of the thumb is that if you install a new motherboard you format the hard drive. Try a windows repair first, if this doesnt work you will have to re-format.

Very very rarely will you ever be able to replace the motherboard and not have an issue with the OS. If you are able to enter at least "safe mode," and you want to attempt to get it to work well without a re-install, I'd remove all of the drivers associated with the motherboard, then install all the new drivers for it. Other than that, you're probably going to have a difficult time doing this.

Well, the only way you could have booted with a different mobo is if, like me, you didn't have any drivers installed for your old mobo but if you did you could either format (reccomended) or get Driver Cleaner Pro, boot into safe mode, delete all old drivers, reboot and then install the new ones.

Well just to let everyone know.I got it to work. All that needed to be done was to delete everything in device manager. It feels good to get one on Bill Gates...Now if only asus saw it that way after all my troubles I still am going to have to install XP for my sister. The motherboard chipset drivers only support 98se and up all she has is 98.
