First overclock - P4 3.0E - Page 2

post #11 of 21
Try not to go to 133MHz on the RAM, it will work, but isn't great for long term use, and usually you can't go much higher on the CPU after you go to 133MHz RAM. Stick with the 166MHz RAM and keep your CPU stable for long term use.

What speed ram would be best to get the 3.0E to it's peak, stable overclock? 533 be plenty to keep a 1:1 at a 1Ghz FSB? I assume I would probably be dealing with the board overheating at that point though?

You mean what type of RAM, like PC3200 or PC4400, I'm not sure, I have PC3200, and I am at a pretty good stable OC.

Yes. I currently have pc3200 and it failed to boot with a 1:1 ratio at 220x15 (882 fsb). I was was thinking of pc 4000 or pc4200 to try and achieve a 1Ghz FSB with a 1:1 ratio. Although I just recently picked up the pc3200 twinx kit from Corsair. Don't really want to spend the money to upgrade again, but, just out of curiosity thought I would pick some brains on that situation. I will probably just stick with a 5:4 and take the CPU up as much as it will go with a stable overclock. Water cooling kit is on the way as well.

CPUz screens attached.

Thread Starter
my temp at idle mode where my comp is doing nothing really is 33 degrees celsius when CPU is working at 100 % it is at 48 degrees celsius
here are my ram timings my ram is PC3200
FSBRAM 1:1;
Cas# Lat 3.0 clocks;
Ras# to Cas# Delay 5 clocks;
Ras# to precharge 5 clocks;
Cycle Time (tras) 9 clocks

i set the ram timings to what u put in the image and my comp ran great. i upped my FSB to 205 and eveything worked windows loaded finally.. i then upped my FSB to 220 and im running at about 3.3 GHz stable so far i havent tested it. according to CPU-Z my ram frequency is at 220 is this bad i dont want to get anything to hot lol
