High Voltage Safe?

Thread Starter
I wanna see if I can get my CPU to 2.7 or 2.8ghz stable and I was wondering if I were to run it at like 1.7v for maby like 30 min or 1hr would that be safe? Is high overvolting for short periods of time safe? If the voltage goes to high will the CPU fry right away or will it crash? What is the max voltage anyone has seen on a X2 4400+?

voltage doesn't matter as long as the temps are good right?

or is there an absolute limit to how high you can go?

Well voltage does matter the more voltage on the cpu puts more stress on the other components i wouldnt risk anything over 1.7Vcore with air cooling despite your faith in your mcbig typhoon

im pretty sure if you volt it too high the resistors or capacitors or w/e is in the cpu cant handle it and fry

Anyone knows what happens if you volt it too high? Will it crash or fry first?

Have you had any diminishing returns yet?

There was an awesome voltage written up yesterday, but it got taken down??? Why did that get taken down...

Ya the Thermaltake Big Typhoon definitly cant handle 1.7v. At least I got to 2.7ghz stable with 1.7v but im at 60c with my huge 125cfm fan on it at full speed. (Dont know how loud the tornado is but this thing is the loudest computer fan i have hear in my life (at full speed)) My computer doesnt shut down which is wierd because its supposed to shut down at 60c but maby it has to stay at 60c for a set period of time because it keeps going between 59c and 60c. The fins on my Big Typhoon arnt very warm at all so the reason the cooler can keep up is because the heat pipes cant carry the heat fast enough lol (im guessing). Anyways its kind of dumb I need 1.7v to be stable at 2.7ghz but maby the dual core CPUs just need more power because of 2 cpus in 1? Im gonna reboot and see if I keep the voltage the same if i can get to 2.8ghz.

actually my core that is usually unstalbe ran stable for 54 min which is good enough for me. I don't think that getting 1 error every 54 min will crash my computer....... will it?

...60°! Thats way to high! You are in grave danger my friend. You can do 1.7V or eving 1.8V for very short periods as long as the temps are low, but yours arnt! I would say go for it if your temps are in the 40° range.

What is your stock load and idle?

Any error will crash the computer at some point...

um ........ maby i should restart and lower the voltage ..........

EDIT: with 1 core at 100% i get 47c is that good enough but when the second core goes 100% then the temps jump like 13c its wierd
