Steelseries I2 mousepad and Logitech G5, what to do?

So I bought this new mousepad of mine. I was loving it so much until I fired CS:S up and tried some intense gaming. Well.. The problem is that this mouse seems to be "choking" when having fast, intense movements on the glass surface while at slow movements the mouse works like a charm. The problem occured usually when I was trying to make a quick 180 degree turn to evade a flash or shoot a enemy behind me. I heard there was a way to upgrade the firmware for this mouse and I do recall even trying it some months backwards but it failed. I have the mouse set to 2000DPI and the problem seems to get even worse at lower DPI settings. Does anyone has this same problem, perhaps with the same set up? I think its time to let this mouse go after two years of extreme fun. I'd really like to keep it though as this is my first gaming mouse ever and I'm really fond to it

Edit: There was some dust in the lasersensor so I cleaned it up, nothing happened And just to be clear, the cursor just stops when making fast movements.

Yes, the cursor stops when making fast movements, thats why G5's fail so hard. Make sure you try to update the firmware again. If i remember correctly it only works in XP so i had to use my old laptop to update mine.

I've been tinkering around and found out that I happen to have a so called version two of G5 meaning that this is the newest firmware available. Damn.. So the only solution here would be changing one of the causes: The I2 or the G5. Would another laser mouse work or do I have to go back to optical mice?

It's I2 not L2.

Good mouse pad, but unfortunately the G5 is not able to track high speeds.

Thanks for the heads up. So now that the only solution is to get a better mouse, Im thinking about Steelseries Ikari Optical. Would it have similar issues with this mousepad? Also the size does matter here so the question is this: Is Ikari about the same size with G5? The design looks quite the same but what about size. I was looking at the measurements and it seems as Ikari is somewhat lower than G5. Am I right?

And thanks for the posts altogether. Much appreciated.

Yeah it's not as tall as the G5. It also has two finger grooves, it's usually a love or hate thing. I didn't like it at all, my hand did not fit very well.

On the graph, I'm almost certain that's the laser version.

The SteelSeries Ikari Optical is a mouse that's perfectly suited for FPS players. The optical sensor is well proven and can track even when moving the mouse at an extremely high speed when playing on a very low sensitivity. It's a very simple mouse where the focus was clearly on performance in games like Counter-Strike. The Ikari Laser is made for all of the MMO/RTS players that need high precision at a rather high sensitivity. It's not made for extremely fast movements of the hand (and by that we really mean EXTREMELY FAST). It offers a LCD , on the fly CPI switching and macro functionalities which can be programmed with the software.
This what they say on their website. So I think its the laser one also. I decided I'd buy a Ikari optical but I've to keep a "cool down period" as I've bought too much computer stuff this month
