First real PC build (no more dumpster diving) - Page 2

No, you can run CF and Eyefinity at the same time... it's pretty much like SLI but you get the bonus of a free TH2Go (given you've got an active DP to VGA adapter or DP monitor).

The only main problem with it, is that you cannot use the full functionality of it (IE: DX11) while running games, since it's just too intense.while running eyefinity your stuck with either using DX9 + CF, underclock your GPU till you can utilize Dx11 or, just use a single GPU and overclock the holy hell out of it....
(this is from what I've read, I can't guarantee it though since like I said, this is my first build with an ATI)

but it's all trial and error... but if worst comes to worst I might scrap the idea of CF 5750/70's and just wait it out till next month an get a 5970 <333333

:EDIT:

did some more quick reading, and found this WideScreenGaming

2 months isn't too "recent" but yeah.. they've fixed the error you receive while trying to run eyefinity while 2(+) GPU's are in crossfire in eyenfinity, once again the only down-side is the incompatibility with DX11 while in CF eyefinity since it'll lock up the GPU's

although the 5870 seems like a good buy at this point, I could always scrounge up some more and just do a single 2GB 4GHz 5970.... mmmmmmmmmm dual 5970's....Idc even if the second slot in my mobo only goes up to 4x PCI-E that's just sexy...........

Back to reality I may or may not resort to going to a 5870 for the 125 GHz more core clock speed, but even if so, I can easily achieve that while OC'ing my GPU.

Update :

Hey guys I got some GREAT! news... my friend from work gave me a lotto ticket today, as a gift for Chinese new year. So I scratched it off, and guess what! $800 winner!!

After I cashed it I decided to "splurge" and bought something that'll really make my rig shine.

Parts ordered as of 02/15/10 :
Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 OC Edition 735MHZ 2GB 4.04GHZ GDDR5 $800 (paid with lotto ticket, THANKS JOE!)
Western Digital Caviar blue 3200GB x 2 ($49.99 ea)
MSI 770-G45 - $89.99
Corsair XMS DDR3 1600 4GB (2x2) $100
OCZ ModXstream 700W 80+ modular - 89.99 ($30MIR)

I may want to upgrade to a PH II x4 965 now...hmm any thoughts? Also I may want to scrap my PSU in 2 months and get a 1kw+ and go CF with my new 5970 <3
Still eating ramen, but it taste so much better now, knowing I just got a free high end GPU.

NICE!!

Do it.

Also, stick to the 955, it's EXACTLY the same as the 965, just a bit slower. Nothing that a bit of overclocking would fix anyway.

I know the OCZ power supplies aren't bad (I own a few), but I would recommend spending a bit extra on a "better" power supply if you can. I'm not sure how that 700w will hold up if everything is maxxed out. I hear they get a bit of voltage variation at higher loads.

hey guys quick update, I know it's been a while since I last posted.

Received my 750W OCZ ModXstream Pro PSU, 770-G45 Mobo, and 4GB Corsair XMS3.

I ordered myself a PhII x4 955, which should be in by the end of this week, and my GPU has been back ordered (gay)... so I gotta wait on that.

Right now I'm in a little toss up though, I'm debating on what kind of CPU cooler I should get.

My current choices due to a vanity complex I can't get over -

Thermalright True Black Rev. C Ultra 120 Extreme Limited Edition $62 (inc shipping)

or a Corsair H50 (at best buy for only $75) The only problem with this, is that this would be the first step I've taken into "Liquid cooling". kinda nervous about getting it but I've heard nothing but great reviews about it. Also, got my hands on 3 tubes of Tuniq TX3 thermal compound from a friend pretty stoked, do you think I could use it on the H50? or is the TIM too thick.

:edit:
I may also look into a V10 CPU cooler aswell if I can crap out another couple of bucks.

Just a hint if you do buy a H50 remember to screw the screws trough the holes so that the screws move around on the bracket. You will avoid messing up your tim and smearing it around when trying to tighten the pump . As you need to hold the bracket up to secure the pump into position like the manual shows.

Anyways this is my first pc so bear with me.

My specs:

965 125W (stock right now, waiting for my two samsung f3s)
5870
gigabyte fxta ud5
haf 932 case.

runs sweet Temps are around 28C and under load it hits 43. But i have a feeling I did something wrong when i was trying to tighten the pump. By smearing the tim around before installing it correctly.

Good luck mate.

update

so my GPU is going to take another month before it'll "be in stock"... so I'm gonna go with the most cheapest affordable route and sticking with my original plan of dual 5750's until then.

I'm still undecided on my CPU cooling, since it's still a toss up. I want to be able to OC it to atleast 3.9 or 4 on the 955, but I haven't read anywhere of anyone using either CPU coolers to do so. If I were to just run on pure air cooling, what would be an ideal temp to keep my CPU at? on top of that, what would be the most benefitial thing to get at the moment?

I may just put off on the project for a while longer to hold out for 2 SSD's running in RAID 0. The reviews I've seen have been phenomenal. (about 64GBs for main use IE: WoW, PhotoshopCS4 and win7) though this set up may seem like over kill already for Warcraft, I do also want to keep around my external storage. my HHD's are already here, but it's a toss up aswell if I want to keep them or not.

Leave some feed back, it's more than appreciated.
