?'s: Overclocking my AMD64 3200, ?about prime95 & multiplier.

To start, I just started overclocking this AMD 64 3200+ less than 5 minutes ago. How long should I let Prime95 run? Also, in my bios I can't raise the multiplier over the default's 10x, but it gives me values below 10x. How can I change this?? I can change the cpu (made it 205 (vs. default 200)). Also, when/how much should I up the voltage? .2 every 20? It's currently at 1.4W. What can I use to view my cpu temperature that doesn't control the fan (like speedfan)?

Anything over 8hrs. Is considered Prime stable. No need to have a multiplier higher than 10x for the 3200+, plus you can't raise it. You should keep your Vcore as low as possible while maintaining a stable O/C. For instance, I'm at 2.71ghz @1.55 Vcore. And you cam use Motherboard Monitor if your MOBO supports it. Hope this helps.

I D/L'd mobo mon. and it isn't listed for support. Uh - oh. And what do you think the vcore should be if I take it to 220x10? (1.4 at 205)

Gotta love Abit, they don't even have the motherboard listed under their downloads.

I need something to monitor or even just manually watch my cpu temp, without regulating to speed of the fans ( I have a fan controller).

Speedfan doesn't have to regulate the speed of the fans. Just make sure everything is set to 100% and just use your fan controller.

use speedfan or look in your bios. Speedfan wont do anything to your fans unless you configure it to.
Dont increase your vcore unless your system is unstable. There is no set MHZ you reach that you have to increase the Vcore. It all depends on stability. I would put your Vcore on default voltage, and just increase the FSB. you can probably get 200 mhz out of your processor before it becomes unstable, then you would have to increase your vcore a little.
Read some overclocking guides to get you started....dont go into OC'n blind.

I read plenty, but they didn't help much about how much I should increase the vcore etc. I'm running stable (ran prime95 overnight) at 1.44v and 2.4ghz (200x10 was stock).

I hope to achieve 2.7, but my do-able goal is 2.6.

try this...

Multi 9
FSB 302 (bare with me)
Divider 133 (302 / 2 = 151 x 1.33 = 200.83mhz RAM)
HTT x3
V-Core 1.6 - 1.65

If your RAM can handle more than 200, just slowly bump the FSB until you hit the max.

For one, you don't really need to run prime every time you raise the FSB. I usually raise it until I can't boot, then back it down a bit. At that point, I run prime, and it'll usually fail within the first minute or two. That's when I raise the voltage, run memtest86 to make sure it's not the memory's problem, and keep checking if it's stable with more voltage. If I can't get it stable in any way at that speed, I'll lower it a couple, and see the highest I can get it stable at. When I think it is stable, I run SuperPi 32m and OCCT to get an estimate on whether or not it's stable, and then I run Prime95 overnight.
