Ok so my family bought this camera from cannon. It's an Slr camera so it takes both video and images. and it's Hd so it's sick as hell.
But when I installed the program it seems to only be able to import images from the memory card.
I was wondering what I need to get the video off?
Do I need a dvd recording unit? cuz those are expensive.

I just read about it in my owners manual. I need a Dv terminal on my computer or a dv capture board?
Is there a simple way to go about this without buying a pci card?

Yeah, you should have a 4 pin firewire port on the back of the camcorder to the left of the "record" button. Pull that flap down to see it. Then depending on what hookup you have on your computer for firewire 6pin or 4pin that is the cord you have to get. They don't come with it so you have to find one on ebay.

To capture use this:
HDV Split

For editing I would recommend this free 30 day trial, $80 to buy software:
Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9

Make sure you have the right codecs:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

Then when you are all done with that run over to these forums and check them out HV 20/30/40 Forums as they are dedicated to these cameras..

YEah so I used the dvsplit program and the sony video program and it created 3 mpg.sft files of something like that. And the video was only 1 hour long.

I need to put it on dvd. And I don't know how to compress it or export it to disc. can I use the dv to disc part of the program?

Yeah you can use the Sony program to get it to DVD. Go to menu>make movie>burn it to dvd, blu ray, etc... then just check the correct check boxes. You do have to have the second portion of that download installed. DVD Architect or something like that.

DVD architect studio. So IDK does it compress it to the right size or what because I just left it going and I came back and there was nothing on the screen, no warning like it was done or nothing.....
