Evga's "step up" program.

Thread Starter
Has anyone tried this yet? I am looking at this since I just got my 6600gt. I was thinking about going to the 6800 or the 6800gs. Anyone know which would be easier to unlock?

well the 6800GS AGP's are unlocking to a GT and some are getting the speeds of the ultra. so the 6800GS is definately the way to go.

evga has a nice co edition w/ a copper heatsink that should help the oc/unlcoking

Nice. I'll do that with the B-day money I'm getting.

The concept of upgrading to a better card for just a little more money is great but where do you thing the cards come from?? I don't want to start **** or be incorrect in any way. go over to the EVGA.com site and read about the program yourself, I wouldn't do it.

I don't see anywhere it says the card they will send is a refurb. Besides EVGA has a lifetime warranty.

Agreed. I just looked at EVGA's website and they don't say anything about getting a refurb card. In fact there is no reason to think that you would get anything but a new card.

But they make you pay list price: if I bought a 7800GT direct from them it would cost $450, but if I got it from, say, Newegg, it would cost $300. So you probably want to eBay your old card or something, and then get the card you want cheaper elsewhere.

if i read right on the step-up program page you can only step up 1x. is that true?
