Binding Local IP to PC

Thread Starter
Quick question...how do I lock an IP assigned by my router to my computer? So that, I do not have to constantly change which ports are forwarded to which IP. I just want mine to always be say 192.168.1.101

And not change even when I reboot my router.

Thanks for any help.

Control Panel > Network Connections > Choose Connection you wish to bind > Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/ IP) > Properties > Check "Use the following IP address" > Enter settings

you also have to make sure your router is properly configured as to which address it gives out, how many addresses to give out, lease length, etc... if you need help with the router settings, youll have to post what it is

What do I have to put for the settings when I say "Use the following IP Address" , I know the first one (192.168.1.101) but the gateways and DNS I have no idea about...

I have a Linksys BEFW11S4

your router is the gateway, so use the routers ip in that spot... the subnet mask is the subnet mask your router shows you in its settings page for dhcp
