sooooooo im assuming no one has found a better air cooling solution for the sli le board ?

my nb is hitting 72 C lately since i moved out of my case.

its either wasting 15 bucks on another spotcool, or getting a decent nb fan / hs combo, anyone tried something else yet ?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I've been meaning to, but I haven't had time yet.

I was planning on "lapping" the bottom of the stock NB heatsink to remove the anodized coating or whatever that is, to promote better heat transfer.

Another thing I want to do is to redo how the heatsink is attached to the motherboard. I want to put more pressure on the NB, because I know from my TIM spread tests that there is very little pressure applied to the NB using the stock mounting methods. I'm thinking some washer, nuts and screws will do the job here.

I'm hoping I'll be able to get to this in 2 weeks or so, after I've got these other two systems fully built out.

well in 2 weeks ill be in basic

i just confirmed with evga that the nb can get up to 85 C till it gets into the problem area.

ill go the bestbuy and drop the 17 bucks on a spotcool, rather then paying shipping up here for a heatsink that may not improve temps
post #1754 of 2630
Well I guess I'll have some results for you when you get back then! hahaha

Maybe I'll do something this weekend if I have spare time, just for the hell of it. I just checked, and my rig with the 40mm fan on the heatsink is showing 60C on the NB. I have this feeling that doing all those things I mentioned above will drop the temps at least 5C though.

Overclocking on this board is super easy.

I'm going to get a NB cooler for it at some point though. As much as it looks nice (the cooler, I mean), I don't really see it and it's not very effective.

Did a Super Pi bench at ~4.9GHz yesterday using the 21x multi, with no turbo on. Shame I forgot to save the screenshot.

That little Antec spot cooler is bad ass Hitman. I wanted to cool my vreg but couldn't cram it in there no way no how. My vreg peaks 88c @ 70f ambient.

I am gonna run it like I stole it, blow it up and start over. Actually I might try lowering the pwm freq to 800mhz since I was in a rush for the chimp challenge and bumped it up a notch with my cpu vcore. Should ideally attempt setting independently

Sadly my rig will be folding 24/7 soon as my old ass is taking 7 credits this summer. I know you all are like so.... Try it with 2 kids and a yard that has to be mowed, dinner that has to be cooked, laundry ect.

Have you all hugged your parents today?

I suppose I should find something to keep that vreg in check? I do see waterblocks for it obviously but is there a better and lower profile (see my cpu cooler) air solution for that vreg? I really think my board/proc might settle close to 4.5 if I could tame it.

Sounds like you have a golden 930 chip there

Sup guys, I've contacted EVGA prior to sending my EVGA 3X SLI 758 for exchange to ask them what's the difference between Revision 1.0 and 1.1 of the board, I'm posting the response they gave me below.

Thank you for contacting the EVGA Customer Service Team.
My name is Dave Biel and I will be answering your question today. Please do not reply to this email, submit any follow up questions here

Question (5/21/2010 4:35:46 AM): As can be seen in the photo I attached, I recently purchased an EVGA X58 3X SLI motherboard, but thing is, it looks different from the photo shown here at EVGA's website, the colors don't match. I made a little research and discovered that mine is Revision 1.0, looks like the one with different colors is Revision 1.1. My question is, is there any difference between Revision 1.0 and 1.1 besides the colors? Cause I got really worried about this, I'm afraid Revision 1.1 might have a major improvement at something over Revision 1.0, just want to clarify if that's the case, thank you.

Answered By Dave B (5/21/2010 7:14:21 AM): Hello,
I am assuming you were looking for the all grey and black revision, correct? There is nothing to worry about. Yours was the original, later we came out with a more basic version of the board, the X58 LE (E757) and it had a different color scheme. There was such an overwhelming response about that boards color scheme, when we did out next run of E758's, we simply used that color scheme as well. There is no change aside from the color.

If you have further issues please feel free to email us back or call support anytime 24/7.

Thanks
EVGA Tech Support

Since there's no change besides the color I'll keep mine, I like it better than the other color scheme so it's all good.

yeah i went back again to the antec spotcool

i rigged that thing in there like a newb, but hey, it works, all that matters. its my organized chaos.

temps this time were a bit more of a drastic difference:

NB:
load before: 72 - 74 C
load after: 55 - 58 C

VRM:
load before: 64 - 66 C
load after: 52 -54 C

once again, for 16 bucks local in bestbuy, its not a bad solution

heres e-pic:
You guys overrate VRM temperatures... as long as they're under 100c you should be good to go.
