Yeah, it is a HDT heatskin, but I've read that you just can't lap very much off it.

I've been concerned about it since back when I installed it though. It is just so damn rough. I got a metal splinter in my finger when I ran my fingers over to feel. And then when cleaning and preping the surface, the DK was ripping off little bits of lint/etc.

If I don't lap it, I still want to take it out at one point in time and reapply TIM since I found an article that suggested to apply TIM differently to HDT heatsinks. Here's the article:

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=5

Just for the hell of it, I upped the Host Frequency from 191 to 195 to get me to 4.1GHz. Running IBT now and going to see what happens without upping the VCore.

Question: Why do people only do 20 runs of linx ?

My 4.2ghz would be stable if I only did 20 runs (I have been doing 100) Keep failing in the 28+ range.

My heatsink is also HDT and I must have reseated the damn thing like 8 times trying to get better temps. I'm always unsure if it's seated properly or if I used the correct TIM application method. So I just went and bought the Venomous X, should be here this coming Monday.

I don't know honestly. I run -bigadv folding. That'll tell you if your OC is stable or not.

Well, I'm new to overclocking first off, but I always thought that once it passes 20 runs of LinX, you move on to 8-10 hours of Prime95. I guess everyone's definition of stable isn't the same as there is no set rule out there.

I haven't even reseated my Dark Knight once yet. It just looks like a hassle since I have to remove the fan to get to the mounting screws and to remove the fan, I don't know if I have enough space to do it with the mobo inside the case. Pulling everything apart is somewhat easy, it's the task of putting it back together that looks like a PITA.

I kinda wish I went with a different heatsink from the get go. Micro Center (where I picked up everything from), didn't really have much else in stock when I made the purchase at the time, but their current stock now is a different story. :swearing:

Let us know how the Venomous X goes! I've just been debating on on off about picking up another i7 920 for $200 and doing another i7 build, maybe with another heatsink, case, and hard drive setup (RAID 5?)
