I will get your info updated in the members list tomorrow from work (dont have my login info here at home)
Thanks 10acjed, but there is still something a miss. Linux froze last night watching a youtube video. Turning off Turbo mode seems to have helped. Here is what I'm at now:

I'd say give your VTT a bump to +150 and try a tad more vcore and see if it helps..

Thanks for the bios link. I'll have to update page one... Seems its just for added CPU support...

Updated member list. Also added the cpu in with the OC column, just realized that it wasnt listed...

Also put the link for the bios update on the first post..

If anyone wants an update just post here and I will be happy to take care of it..

So, I have a x58 SLi LE / SLI3 board with the latest BIOS and took some guidence from the 4GHz templates in this topic and the how to guides in OCN, and then did some of my own tweaking for 4GHz, but now I am having some issues with the CPU TM kicking in and down clocking my CPU under Prime95. As soon as it goes around 75 - 80C it down clocks the multiplier goes from 21X to 12X.

Currently I left most Memory Settings at Auto, Speed Step, CxE, Turbo, And EVGA Vdrop(LLC / Without vDrop) are all disabled. The VCore s at 1.2750 (previously was at 1.23 ~ 1.25), But some one suggested I should bump it up a notch. Current Temps with my H70 is in the med ~ high 70C 's on Prime95 after about 5 - 10 mins.

So my problem isn't Prime95 crashing, its the CPU getting down clocked after a while. Never happened on my previous Gigabyte board and the 920.

It sounds like the thermal protection is kicking in too early, it should be in the 95c range.

I personally do not like turning it off, but if it is triggering early you may need to and just keep a program like everest running in the backround to monitor it.

You could also try to reflash the bios, or go to an earlier bios to see if it fixes it. The TM limit should be set in bios/cpu so I dont think there is a way to manage the temp that it throttles down. I will have to look when I get home to be sure tho...

Ya Bud, I think the thermal throttling is kicking in at the 70s.
Currently I have it stable at 191x21 under 70C @ Prime95 Load for 8hrs. Anything over that (even 192x21) and my temps start going around 70C.

I flashed the bios with the latest one actually. I wonder if there was anyway to set the TM limit higher, like you said 95C or something. Because unless it stops throttling and downclocking my processor at 70C, I cant go over 4GHz

Checkout my topic http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...-930-4ghz.html

Any idea or way you can manage to confirm if its the latest bios causing the TM issue and whcih might be the best bios for me for overclocks and stability?

I have no idea on how to turn it off or rise it from 70s / fix it, counting on you now

Sorry man, but much like others I am stumped as well.. What are you using for a cpu cooler?
Also have you tried a few different utilities to compare the temp readings.
The two things it logically could be are:
1. bad temp sensor that is relaying a lower temp to software therefor it throttles at the right temps but the software is telling you it is lower than actual.

2. bug in the bios, there are archived bios so you should try flashing it to an older one like these and see if it helps.

Bios 82 - http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=975588&mpage=1

Bios 81 - http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?&m=960173&mpage=1

I am currently running the 82

If this is happening since you switched to the evga board but wasnt on the old one with the same cpu I would contact evga directly, show them your thread in the evga forums and tell them whats happening. You may need to RMA then board.

I agree with 10acjed...best support you'll get would be straight from eVGA. Hopefully you're fully registered with them as well as your product(s) so you have the option of RMA. You shouldn't be throttling at 70C...so I also ask what CPU cooler you are using cause there may be a misread/glitch with the actual temperatures. Maximum I've hit would be around 90C in the summer with stress testing and I still didn't hit the point of throttle. Maybe you can update to an older BIOS version. I stopped updating the BIOS for my X58 Classified since I couldn't get stable with my original overclock...so I reverted back to the stock BIOS it came with.

I think thermal threshold is 100 or even 105

From intel data sheets on the i7-900 series

Quote:
The processor intelligently selects the appropriate TCC method
to use on a dynamic basis. BIOS is not required to select a specific method (as with
previous-generation processors supporting TM1 or TM2). The temperature at which
Adaptive Thermal Monitor activates the Thermal Control Circuit is factory calibrated and
is not user configurable. Snooping and interrupt processing are performed in the
normal manner while the TCC is active.
So it is not controlled by the bios, but by the cpu.

Here is the data sheet - http://download.intel.com/design/pro...hts/320834.pdf its on page 76

Its strange because everything I am reading right now indicates that all thermal management is hard coded into the cpu:

Quote:
THERMTRIP# Signal
Regardless of whether or not Adaptive Thermal Monitor is enabled, in the event of a
catastrophic cooling failure, the processor will automatically shut down when the silicon
has reached an elevated temperature (refer to the THERMTRIP# definition in
Table 5-1). THERMTRIP# activation is independent of processor activity. The
temperature at which THERMTRIP# asserts is not user configurable and is not software
visible.
It would appear that you may have a bad temp reading and the cpu is actually hitting higher temps...
