If anybody is Interested I did a Water block mod on the EVGA E758 SLi3 using a larger RASA CPU block. Never got any feedback from anybody but I thought I should post it here anyway in case anybody finds it helpful.

this thread looks old.. so i may be late to the party.. i acquired a X58 sli from a local shop for free cause it wouldn't post.. Sent the board to EVGA for analysis and was repaired by them as well..

So now i have a X58 board which i paid little to nothing to have repaired (mostly shipping) and im curious what kind of setup i could build with it..

anyone have any recommendations. I dont even know what the max Processor is for this board. i found a core i7 920 online for 45 bucks and was thinking i will prolly go that route until i have an idea of what the max is for this board etc thumb.gif.

I have an issue that I need help with, I have a EVGA X58 4 way Classified and it works fine with the current cpu but when I try to upgrade it to a new one it wont post:

Current Working Configuration:

Motherboard V1
Intel XEON W3530
4x 4gb DDR3 1066 Samsung RAM
1050w Corsair PSU
AMD MSI R9 290x Lightning
Crucial M4 128gb SSD
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Build Log

CPU im trying to upgrade to is a Intel Xeon X5650

Things I have tried:

Upgraded Bios to v83
Tried Differant types of RAM
Tied Differant and No GPU configurations

Other Notes:

Bios Post code: Fc (Only code shown as soon as powered on)
Most motherboard lights come on but not the Power and Reset LEDs

Other Issue:

Even with the working configuration their is one problem, when I power on it will not post until I hit reset once, It will post all the way to code 69 then 25 but will not post completely or show video until I hit reset?

Nice, If I can get my upgraded cpu to work I will give you my W3530 for free! What model number is it?

thatch weird to be honest. normally the cpu can be swapped in with no issues.. did you ensure that it is seated properly? maybe the board is grounded somehow. i dont see your power supply being an issue cause it sounds like it has plenty of juice to go around. my suggestion would be remove everything and pull the board, reseat processor, attempt test bed post with only one stick of ram, cpu, and maybe a video card for visual post.

if it doeskin post after you have tried that check with another power supply. jut in case the off chance that it somehow went bad..

hows that w3530? i just picked one up for 6 bucks off e-bay to test a X58 i got. haven't had a chance to actually get something set up on it yet. does the processor perform alright?

You'll need to do a solder mod and short or move some resistors for it to work. There's several threads about this if you search google. You can also send it to EVGA and they'll do it for free.

Just as a heads up if you ever want to use the hexacores on that E758 - it won't work either and will require modding because it's an older E758 board with the green ram slots instead of the revised gray one. Check the board revision. Only 1.2 or later works, 1.0~1.1 won't work.

It's a really solid board and I've taken my x5650 to 4.6ghz with it.

Actually yea, it does fine, Windows index score of 7.5....

I looked around in the forums but all I found said that the 4 way did not require an hard mod to work, only the ftw3 and older ones.... Also I have seen alot of other rigs with the same setup that never mentioned that at all..... Do you have a good link?
