Official EVGA X58 SLI/LE/Micro MB Owners Club - Page 32

Update:
I had added a second GB drive bringing my total to 3 drives, while I was in the case looking for anything out of place, I pulled the sata cable from the front panel off the board, it does not work so why leave it in I thought...

Well, boom the USB power up at boot lag and unable to get into the bios went away.
Only oddity with the board now, is the Esata on the back will not reconnize a drive in my drop in enclosure unless I have it on a boot up, first board I could change them at will with it on..

My second Vid card came in last night, so I will have Crossfire back in tonight, IF all of that works great, the only little issue with the external enclosure is not a deal breaker or enough to make me want to rma the board.
Love the HAF-932,but it is not perfect.! NOR am I going to the trouble to RMA it haha

So, if all goes well.. I will working on OC and gaming by tonight

I had the same problem with this board at bootup, finally figured out that the drives needed to be hooked up in the right order with the esata last.

K. I keep seeing people get temps as high as 81-82c and it's considered stable, I thought anything over 75 was dangerous? If 80 is ok then I can safely pull my OC higher.

My absolute highest was 75. I think 80 is unsafe but thats just me.

Well Hemby's temps are a little on the high side. He's touching 80 testing with Prime95. If he were to test with LinX, it would be even higher then that.

I've been under the assumption that we want to be below 80c. Of course, many of us don't touch 80c under normal use, we will only see these temperatures during stress testing.

My idea of "stable" is a system/configuration that can pass hours of Prime95, 20-30 passes of LinX and Intel Burn Tool without any calculation errors or blue screens. If I can be at sub 80c when testing with LinX or IBT and not having any errors, that's stable.

K. I seem to be having issues anyway. Anything over 3.7 crashes me no matter what I do :/

Try posting up your bios setting, maybe we can help.

Everything is exactly as Karma posted in the OP. :/ I set every setting identical, just had to tune back QPI to 180 to see if i can maintain at least 3.8

Edit: Also, RAM timings are scaled back to 9, not 7.
Edit2: Oh, also, what's a safe VREG temp? E-LEET lists me at idle at 50 and she goes up during Prime of course. Usually 5-8 degrees depending on room temp.

Well, it depends for what what you use your rig for. If you mostly game etc. it's not a big deal. If your machines going to sit pegged on 100% load for prolonged periods of time, it's probably worth more consideration.

An interesting note, I noticed on mine, that when pushing higher voltages/clocks, it will actually start to throttle before it even hit's mid 70's. Not sure specifically why (as I've seen the temps in the 80's before anyway w/o a problem), but I just thought it was interesting.

I wouldn't consider 80 inherently 'unsafe', so long as the clock & temps are totally stable. But if it sit's in the low 80's w/ the occasional spike near 90, that would make me uncomfortable.

That said, mine max's out mid/high 60's, but it's merely a matter of how it worked out. If I could squeeze more clock out of it & keep the temps </= 80ish I would. But it just wants too much more juice to go passed 4.4 on normal cooling.
