Didn't even think to check Amazon! Great deal you got there. I think I paid like $180 for my 2nd x58 LE after Bing Cashback

Oh, got back from Micro Center and picked up a i7 920. My current chip is batch #3946A172 and I guess I could consider that a decent chip since it does 4.0GHz on 1.20v without problems.

This new chip is batch #3946A169. Unfortunately, there's no data for this in the batch guide. I'm hoping it will be a similar performer to my 1st chip since its a relatively close match.

I'm dieing to test it out, but I don't want to rip my current machine apart just to play around and then have to put it all back together...hahaha

Didn't pick up anything else expensive there since I didn't like any of the sales reps working there at that moment. One guy tried to tell a customer that he was 100% sure you could use 2 DVI and 1 HDMI connection for Eyefinity. And then I heard that same rep just being a pain to other people as well, telling them to look at the print ad instead of asking him for the price. That just makes me not want to spend money there because anything I buy, he has to get out of locked cases and throw his sticker on for commission which he doesn't deserve.

I guess I'm still tossing up against Intel X25-M vs. OCZ Vertex. Depending on where I read, some say that the X25-M should be the only decision if considering one or the other at this price point, other articles say the Vertex outdoes the X25-M for cheaper.

I don't have brand loyalty, so I feel like I can go one way or the other. As I'm typing this, I forgot if the Vertex supports TRIM or not though. That's going to be important to me since the OLD Samsung 64GB SSD I am running in my Lenovo X300 has deteriorated due to lack of TRIM, and before researching all of this...my ignorance on how to take care of a SSD.

I know I said I was going to MicroCenter earlier in the week, but I've just been at work too late. Heading out in a few minutes and going to leave there with at least a new i7.
The OCZ Vertex Series do support TRIM with FW 1.4 as Ritchwell said.

1. you must have FW 1.4 and up
2. Windows 7
3. trim does not work on raid
From what I was told and have read TRIM for raid setups is not supported "yet" but with due time they plan to support it. This is just off the top of my head so I'm not sure how this will happen but it would be nice because I'd like an excuse to get a 2nd Vertex for Raid0 lol

I Hve my 30 gig vertex on a raid setup since May 2009, no slow downs or any performance degredation as of yet. GC for raid is a great alternative until they include any updates so trim can pass through the controller.

I'm in, heres the best pic I could get. I can post a pic of the box if you need.

My only complaint is it can't run my 2000mhz ram stable.. Have to downclock it to 1600-1700l

Thanks Ritch. I knew the bits on running W7 and not working on RAID, but just didn't remember about the OCZ bit.

I think I'm going to buy an SSD from TigerDirect when they go back up to 15% BCB. Still haven't totally decided on which yet though.

I am itching to buy something this weekend though. I'm going to pick up a Venomous-X for now, some GentleTyphoon AP-14s for the Ven-X, and a bunch of Noiseblocker MF12-S2 to use as case fans. Should be about $170 in cooling supplies, but I'm really itching to get this 2nd i7 920 fired up to see what it can do!

Its pretty much any idilinx controller SSD with the FW1916 (OCZ has there own, OCZ fw 1.5 = fw 1916 most idilinx ssd) that has trim and gc, so you won't have a problem raiding these SSD drives
