Any news Andy?

I have never taken off the nb-sb heat stinks. Are the chips under the nb-sb removeable as in can they be re-seated like a Cpu?

Just a thought

sorry to jump in, but I don't believe so. They are soldered onto the PCB.

I didn't think they were soldered but rather glued to it. I know on some of the 939 boards you can remove the NB chip using a heatgun,

I never really gave it a good look on my x58. but it very well could be soldered. Evga probably doesn't want people messing with it.

I dropped in the new NB heatsink and Caviar Blue. Boot up the machine and was going to run LinX for temps but I find my computer isn't using all 6gb of memory. Windows and CPU-Z sees 6gb, but only 4 are usable.

I did some quick searching and tried to change boot parameters in msconfig to use all the memory, but that didn't work.

Before I unplugged the system, everything was fine. Now there's an issue....

HELP!!!
Maybe the ram slot is faulty or just suggesting the Venomous X might be causing problems. Here was another member that had Ram related problems. Just something else to check.

What a nerve racking day.

I pulled everything out of the case again, and took everthing down to pieces. I undid the NB heatsink, saw there wasn't any issue, put TIM and the heatsink back on.

I pulled the Ven-X off, lifted the CPU from the socket, and put everything back together. Lifted and reinserted memory modules, and then plugged everything back in.

I was rushing to put everything back together and when I reinstalled the 5770 I forgot to plug in the 6pin power cable. I didn't realize that for awhile and tried to turn my rig on without it. My fan was going crazy and nothing would show up on screen so I thought I fried my 5770 as well.

I'm rushing through all of this because I'm at work and I'm working on the rig when I get a few minutes of break from a call or meeting. So I had to go back to work and I couldn't focus on work because I thought I'd have to RMA a bunch of **** tonight. During a meeting, I realized that I forgot the power on the 5770 and once I knew that...I became super ansy to get out of that meeting. Plugged in the 5770 and everything is back up like normal now. All I need to do is tweek my OC settings again because I forgot EXACTLY what they were and I didn't write it down.

By the end of tomorrow I think I'll be able to call everything "DONE".

Thanks! What a damn day.

I think I really need to get my personal toys out of the office. That's what made it really bad, I practically sidelined all my work to tinker with the computer today.
