Amd sempron 3100+ overclocking help - Page 2

Okay, your cpu is a Socket A. When your computer first starts up, you want to immediately access the bios menu. For my Abit NF7s 2.0 I hit the "delete" key about 5 seconds after powering on the computer, or restarting. From the bios menu, you can change your frequency and multiplier in combinations to oc (overclock). For instance, my cpu runs oem at a frequency of 200 megahertz with a multiplier of 11. 11 x 200 = 2.2ghz. Now if i change my multiplier to 12, then my cpu is running now at 2.4ghz. You can also change the frequency from your bios. It helps if you have good memory sticks, and increase the voltage on you memory sticks, which also may be accessed froom your bios menu.

Help this little bit of info helps you out a little bit.

WEll,Start with the CPU change Htt to 3x, Then start with the FBS, After you find the limit of the CPU then start on the memory. If you don't have good memory you will have to run a divider. Put it at 166 or 333. I'm not sure how it will read in your bios

Before one moves into such questions it is far better (I think) to find out the full system specificiations.

Please post your motherboard make and model. "Dunno" just does not cut it. If you want help then give the required information. Open your case and look for the silkscreened make and model.

The download of your motherboard manual.

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=647&kind=1

The newest bios download for your mainboard.

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=647&kind=1

This manual gives no view of the bios readings so I can not give you them.

What I would look for is a pci/agp lock. Should look like 33/66 in the settings.
Then I would set the HTT Multi at 3
Set the ram divider at 266 (to ensure you are not held back by ram)

Then begin to increase the HTT by 10 or so. Reboot, go into windows and test for stability with:

SuperPi

http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=36

Prime95

http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

if stable, continue. Once you find you are instable, drop down by 10 and retest for stability. Once stability is achieved you can move up your ram settings.

Post stability HTT settings here and then you can get help with the ram.

That's the worst manual I have ever seen. It gives almost no bios settings although they are in the system.

The options may be there but require changing the "Auto" setting to Advanced, User, Expert or something along those lines. That will, if available, expose the greyed out options.

Hey Jori, I'd love to know your settings. I just got a K8N board for my Sempron 3100+.

My settings currently are:

FSB: 241MHz
VCore:1.55V
Mem: set to 333 but with overclock, running at 392
Mult: x9

even if I lower my mult, I dont seem to be able to push the FSB any higher than it is....my system is sitting at 2.16Ghz and CPU temp is great.....like 31-34C. I tried putting some more voltage into my CPU but it didnt seem to help much.

I just thought seeing as though you have the same mobo if I try emulating your settings I may get some better results....in the mean time I'll keep playing with it.
