Best HDD brand for Notebook.

I need to replace a dying notebook hard drive. I'm looking at 40gb 5400rpm drives. Preferably with 8mb cache. What's the best brand in this category? In tests it looks like Hitachi wins in 100gb drives, is this the same for 40gb drives? What are your recomendations? Thanks. Oh btw, I have about $80 to work with.

I think these are what I'm trying to decide between. All 40gb 5400rpm

Fujitsu, $65

Samsung, $66
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152501
Toshiba, $70, with 16mb cache.

Reviews say that toshiba runs a little hot though. And the dead drive I'm replacing is a Toshiba, so I may skip that one.

I replaced our old 4200 IBM drive last week with a new Hitachi 5K100 5400rpm 40gb hard drive.
The laptop seems faster than it has ever run just by replacing the hard drive.
Boots faster, brings everything to screen faster than before.
I read a lot of reviews of drives for laptops and the Hitachi was deemed better than most other drives.
I do wish I had gone the 7K100 7200rpm drive, but now I don't feel like removing the drive and changing out the drive.
The install of the OS takes more time than the drive changeout does.

I ended up going with a samsung. All important data from the old drive is backed up to disc. Can I just install the new drive and then run Dell's recovery discs to bring the laptop back to life?

I guess it does not matter, since you have already ordered a drive.
I read a round up type of review on hard drives for laptops a few weeks ago.
In this roundup, they compared most all the major mfg of hard drives 2.5".
Believe it or not, Hitachi came in first in most of the reviews, some others came in second out of all drives.
I ordered a new 7K100 Hitachi drive for our Dell and believe it or not.
By replacing a 4200rpm drive with a 7200rpm drive was like getting a newer high speed processor.
Almost twice as fast as if was with the old drive.
