Need help getting to 4.0 GHz - Page 4

I've just put together an ASUS P5WD2-E Premium and with a P4 630 (3.0Ghz) have easily hit 4.0GHz. Stock voltages and DDR2 @ 711 4-3-3-10.

Dual prime 95 stable and SuperPi32M stable. There is no doubt that a Prescott iteration with the right motherboard will hit stable at 4.0 on air. Just with that board I doubt a 4.0 and 3.8 stable is some good work. I have had more than a few 3.2C Northwood 30 cappers make 3.8 stable as well on the P4P based boards thus I think the problem is more board/chipset based than processor based.

my power supply died yesterday ...i guess ill just get a better one today...sucks...i guess all that extra volatage....the cell leaked all over...but i got to say i installed the big typhoon yesterday with plenty of clearance and no problems...that thing is a beast...

i think the only way to run 1:1 ratio is to leave the stock speed....the best i got after that was 5:4 with 3.6 ghz and 195 memory speed....i can guarantee is the memory that is the problem...especially with mine i can trun it anything toher then 2-3-3-6..anything other then this config does not work...wont get to post....i think ill live with it for a while and when the time comes ill sell...

With a better PSU you will probably find not only more stable an overclock but also a higher one. You might also wish to pull two stick of DRAM out leaving 1GB as you will more than likely achieve a higher and better overclock with 1GB and 2GB is much of the time overkill on todays games. However, if you are doing video converting you will see some difference between 1GB and 2GB. All my tests have shown that in regards to gaming there is no difference between 1 and 2GB. In all cases I have achived a better overclock with 1GB over 2GB.

Let us know what happens with the new PSU.

Question here, before you added your DDR500, how much did you hit on the FBS, even if it's at 5:4 or 3:3. Because I hit a wall at 237FSB 5:4. If I put DD500 will I *destroy* this limitation?

i have ddr500 from day one. i run 1:1 at 250fsb, and still at 1:1 at 265fsb... cant get it to go any higher then that, so i dont know but i imagine that it could make it to 275 if i could boot under that.

Oh! Then I see why you can OC this much.
BTW, if you try to run your mem at 5:4 and you can boot much furter, than its obviously your mem that is holding you back. 265mhz from 250 is already a lot from most manufacturer, such as OCZ, Samsong, Ultra...

yeah, its only an extra 30mhz... shouldnt be killing it that soon. i cant really run a divider either, my mb isnt setup with that function. i can choose between 400/500/533mhz for ram. if i set it at 400(currently) i still get a 1:1
