6600GT vs 6800XT

Thread Starter
Hi, Im planning to buy a new video card and couldnt decide between the two. A 6600GT or a 6800XT. Considering its both from Inno3d. What overclocks better and is good for gaming. And is Palit a good brand? Thank You!

Go with the 6600GT.....go to the manufacturer's wbsite and you will probably see that the GT has a better pixel saturaion rate than the XT...plus, the XT's are notorious for overheating problems.

mmm i think i would have to go with the 6800, the extra piplelines and higher ram frequency give it a slight edge, plus it sounds cooler to say you have a 6800 in your comp then a 6600 , which many many people have. =] hope this helps -trey

I would go 6800xt, a better % overclock on the core, more ram bandwidth, and 4 more pipes

Go whit the 6800XT! Best card for sure! If you can choose a GS.
But forget the 6600GT!!! Was a nice card. But the 128bits mem will kill the card perf in near future games. The Pipes mean a lot

Even though I have a 6800, I would still say that you should go with the 6600gt. The 6600gt has GDDR3 RAM that operates at a very high frequency, well powering the 6800xt which only has DDR1 RAM, not to mention the core clocks on the 6600gt is also higher than those of the 6800xt. Unless of course you can unlock the 6800xt and somehow make it equivalent to a regular 6800. This is how I view the rank: 6600le<6600<6800xt<6800le<6600gt<6800<6800GS<6800G T<6800ultra<7 series. At stock, the 6800xt and 6600gt both have 8 pipelines, and the 6800xt only has 1 more vertex pipe. Are you able to unlock the rest of the 6800xt's pipes? Well if you want to take the chance then go for it, otherwise to play it safe I would choose the 6600gt.

You forget that the 6800 has 256bit ram, it's irrelevant that it's ddr1 as it still has more bandwidth than the 6600gt. The core clocks are also not very significant since the 6800xt has 12 pipes (depending on which 6800xt you buy, on newegg the cheapest is 12) in contrast to the 6600gt's 8. Also, 6800 core's also have a good bit higher % overclocks than the 6600gt's which don't oc well at all.

I dont remember that being a option.

AGP or PCI-E? Either way if you cant get a X800GTO or a 6800GS get a 6800XT. It will beat the 6600GT in many if not all benchmarks because the architecture is improved to be more efficent.
