New Stock Config: TEMPs TOO HOT!! HELP PLZ

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I just built a new config yesterday, with retail CPU AMD 3200+ Venice 64 (not oc'ed), 2 gigs of Ram (not oc'ed), and an ATI x800 GTO 256 Ram (not modded).

My problem is that when I run BF2, it shuts off randomly and restarts. This tells me that it must be a temp. problem. However, I am running everything on STOCK (speeds, voltages, etc..), the airflow for the Card and Case are very good, and all the fans are runnig well. Even in idle it's really warm.

I have NOT touched any settings, it is stock. All my fans are working and my case has good airflow.

Here are my temps (in Celcius) at different steps. Thank you VERY MUCH for your help.

Startup:
Motherboard: 31
CPU: 37
GPU: 43

Idle:
Motherboard: 36
CPU: 49
GPU: 55
CPU fan: 3169 RPM

Running BF2 (right before restart)

Motherboard: 36
CPU: 55
GPU: 64
CPU fan: 3392 RPM

Thank you VERY much.

My ram: A-DATA Vitesta 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM
My case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel
My Mobo: EPoX EP-9HEAI Socket 939 VIA K8T890

wow ur temps are running real hot, i wouldnt suggest running anything intensive before u find out what it is,, since it restarts when u play BF2, and when u restarted, it says 55C that means it cooled down a little bit from max load.. im guessing 58-62C this is not good at all. your idle temperature is very high also. too my newbish experience, im guessing this is a temperature transfer problem, from your CPU to your Heatsink, and then your fan, it definetly has to be that, since ur idle temp is 49C, please note how much thermal paste u put down, and what u used ect..the whole process.

My CPU was retail, which is why I find it hard to think it has anything to do with thermal paste, especially since it's the same case with the Graphics card and I didn't change the fan either.

My PSU is a standard 400Watt PSU I think it's Antec. I really do not know what this could be :S

make sure you are running a bare minimum of programs to show an accurate idle load. make sure your HD is in UDMA mode and not PIO mode (check the ide controllers for that). and make sure you have no spyware/adware/viruses on your comp (download ad-aware se).

you might post a screen shot of what is running on your comp in the processes screen when you ctrl+alt+del. also, a picture of the inside of your case might be good.

Some computers just run hotter than others...AMD computers are no exception. I've seen amd users just put a better cooler on their cpu and get much better over all results since the ambient for the case goes down as well. Also, get some AS5 immediately...it works like you wouldn't believe!!!

55c is a good temp to shoot for in any case, whether it be amd or intel...

solution: get AS5 and a Thermaltake Big Typhoon...the best $60 investment of your life!
i had about 45 degrees c idle with anti virus and thigns when idle and when i installed a big typhoon kit with artic 5 i got about 38 degrees c
but it is my first day of of big typhoon, i think i havent applied the paste on properly or the big typhoon is not secure as it can twist but it maybe because of the screws.
