Hit a wall at 250fsb 3000 Venice on AV8

Thread Starter
So I've been running my pc at 250fsb for a while now. Completely stable of course, so yesterday I spent the day trying to push it further. I was running fine at 270 and then started getting some IRQ errors. All the settings I could think of were correct. LDT at 3x, memory kept close to 200 at stock timings, voltages bumped up a bit. What else is keeping me from getting a stable overclock? I thought, maybe the AGP Lock. Its supposed to be flaky on the AV8. So I used a 8:2:1 Ratio, and no help. Unfortunatly, 8:2:1 is the highest ratio available. What else could I try?

Most bios will lock the AGP/PCI when you set the agpmhz to 67mhz instead of the stock 66mhz.

No offense but It sounds like you don't really have your head fully wrapped around oc'ing on these modern setups. I recommend you read up on all the FAQ and stuff. You'll be surprised how easy this stuff is once you've figured out which each setting is.

Have you adjusted your HT multiplier?

You cannot go over 1000fsb or it will crash.
Try running the HT multi at 2x or 3x instead of the stock 4x or 5x.

You also may need to put a divider on your ram.

If your keeping your ram at stock speeds(200mhz) AND THEN upping your HTT your going to be hold back by your ram cause your actually OC'ing you ram also.

I recommend you get a program called "clockgen" and start overclocking in windows. Clock gen will actually show you your CPU clocks, HTT clocks and Ram clocks BEFORE you actually apply them so you know where you're at.

Also, I think your processor's multiplier is at 9x on a 3000+ right?

Keep your vcore at stock settings.

My 3200+ is stable @ 2.6ghz stock voltage, yours should be no different.

Like I said, the LDT or HT multiplier is at 3x. I've read all the faqs, thats how I got to where I am. I upped the Vcore to 1.5 and even tried at 1.55. Temps on this board are not very reliable but they hover around 45. The CPU sensor on the AV8 is notoriously inaccurate. And like I said, I put a divider on the ram. I ran it at 133 at 3-3-3-8. After OC it was around 180. Its rated for 3-3-3-8 at 200.

here are some settings, set ya agp to 67mhz, run about 1.5 vcore, keep ya ram on that divider , set ya ht ratio to 3x and ya htt (fsb) to 270 and boot it up, if it doesnt boot try a bit more vcore, maybe .025 more or .05 more just to get it running, check ya load temps in windows and see how you are going, .025 vcore can make all the difference to being stable or not and can make a few degrees difference in ya temps, I can get my 3000+ venice to 2600 stable at a reported 1.488vcore. make sure ya spread spectrum is off also and set ya cas latency to 2.5 or even 3 for added stability whilst trying to get the cpu sorted.

Well, the agp/pci lock on this board is definitly crap. At 270 with the lock on windows reboots right after loading. With 8:2:1 instead of the lock, I went all the way up to 315fsb. Now of course that high I am running the agp and pci too high, but at least I know not to use the lock. I'm at 270 right now, primes been stable for about half hour. I'll let it go for a bit and see what happens.

Also, my mem crapped out at 224fsb, so that's my limit there. I could only boot with stock timings, 3-3-3-8. Anything tighter and I just get error beeps.

Temps are 39 idle 42~43 load.

if you are at that htt your lock must be working, post a screenie of where you are at. OK Ive just found out a major problem, your mobo is running the via chipset which is not real overclocker friendly at all, my old msi had that via 800pro chipset and couldnt get past about 260 htt stable not to mention 270, It would only be stable at about 250 and not much more

I suppose a lot of the trouble could be due to the VIA chipset. Oh well. Start shopping for a new board I guess.
