great guide +1

im curious, what exactly does this change for the card performance wise, i mean what gains do you get out of doing this? does it unlock disable stream processors or something?

It unlocks the limits to the 5850's core and memory.

Normally 775 for core and 1125 for memory is the limit.

Well... with the bios... you can have up to 1200 1400.

Also you can use Msi Afterburner to change the voltage and overclock along with change the fan curve.

If you use the asus or msi bios you unlock the OC limits in CCC Overdrive.

Edit: BTW, nice rig. Is that for real? How about some pics of this quad-sli water-cooled monster rig of yours?

if you have another graphics card.... use it in the main pcie slot and put your 5850 in the second pcie slot.

when you have made sure they are both powered, turn it on and try flashing the 5850 to a 5850 bios!! by typing

atiflash -p -f 1 yourbios.rom
or
atiflash -p -f 1 yourbios.bin
depending on what your bios is, doesn't really matter which since atiflash takes either and its just part of the name
