How To:Flash your 5850 Bios - Page 22

I have CCC unchecked in msconfig/startup. Now I am having total issues, I cannot even get OCCT to run at stock, I was up to 875 stock voltage with 0 OCCT errors before I started lockups again(after bios flash). I don't know what I'm doing wrong here but CCC is not running. ZoneAlarm MSI AB and Utorrent are the only things checked in startup.

Edit: I definitely have a conflict here because OCCT is locking my PC up even if I put my XFX cards stock settings in AB.

check gpu-z for voltage fluctuations and so on

EDIT: you might have to reinstall drivers

I don't know what I am really looking for in GPU-z? The VDDC stays the same even running furmark(why bother with OCCT if it just locks the PC up on start). The only thing I see is the VDDC current moving around 86-91.5A in furmark, 15.7 steady idle.

I will try reinstalling drivers, I was thinking this as well. I already had to do that when I flashed BIOS(drivers wouldn't load) but I will try it again. Yes, I use driver sweeper in safe mode after uninstall(always).

Don't worry about OCCT then. OCCT is bugged to me. Just try running furmark or 3dmark06 or Crysis or Metro 2033 to stress it.

Well the issue I have with that is I have to be starring at the screen the entire time to find errors, OCCT seems to be the only one that logs errors? I love furmark but not being able to monitor errors without starring dead blank at the screen for 15 minutes sucks.

A Game like Crysis makes since, but wouldn't fully loaded(all stress options) stress of furmark do more?

Edit: reinstalling ATI drivers fixed OCCT, at least for now. If it starts acting up again I will just stop using it.

Glad you had a fix for now. You could actually run the Crysis benchmark program however man runs you want.

I think the only errors that matters are noticeable artifacting during gaming, or plain BSOD or gray screens.

Yep just as I figured, once I hit 900Mhz it doesn't matter how much voltage, OCCT locks the PC up. Now when I back down to what did work, it still locks up, that's it no more OCCT for me.

(sigh) I was able to run numerous rounds of Crysis benchmark at max settings with 1920*1080 I had the GFX card at 1002/1260 1.25v, I also ran several rounds of FFXIV bench which stressed the GPU way more then Crysis bench(99% vs 67%) temp = 79C @ 99% load.

So anyhow, I then attempted to run Furmark (vs1.8.2), @ 1920*1080, stress test, xtreme burning, displacement mapping, and post fx checked. PC went black screen and froze.

Every single boot up after this occurred the PC would freeze when AB launched, had to remove the startup for it.

I tried 1002/1260 1.3v same thing with Furmark.

I tried backing down to 900/1125 1.2v, same deal.

So I backed down to 875/1125 1.1v and furmark runs for 15min b4 I shut it down manually.

I give up, I think my board refuses clocks above 880, or I am doing something terribly wrong. It sucks because I hear of all these people doing 1G core clock on 5850's but I cannot even get 900Mhz with 1.3v and run Furmark or OCCT, not even for 10 seconds.

Maybe you should turn off the pc for a while and give the graphics a rest. Your temps could be giving you issues, but at least your bios flash is good. I think that your card just needs you to let it cool off a bit.
