I am able to pass OCCT for 15min shader 8 @ 875/1125 1.1v(max temp 76C@56% fan)! I think this card is limited, go figure. My CPU is a crappy stepping and won't go stable over 3600Mhz, yet even my XFX card is limited to under 900Mhz(bad luck for me as usual).

Turning the PC off to "rest" the card makes absolutely 0 sense. The temps will be right back to the same as soon as I power back and stress it. Not to mention as soon as the stress programs end, the temps go back down to 40~50C(depending on OC settings)

If people had to rest their hardware they wouldn't keep the PC up for months at a time, even I did that with my old rig. I turn this one off every night, but only because the heat makes sleeping impossible.

Well, I wasn't saying that it will be cooler after... but when I let my computer sit, sometimes it gets stable easier as far as graphics wise.

IE: If I overclock my graphics too high... it gets overstressed... it has to kind of reset for it to get stable even at lower clocks.

I wouldn't want to OC based on such thought. I want to make it stable at all times, not just after a fresh boot up. If I have to rest it to get it to work properly I might as well not even bother.

Unless you are saying only if you over stress it do you do this, but I still don't see that being needed.

-.-
You don't get what I mean... when you go too high... you drop it down.. and it is still not stable... right?

When I let it sit for a while then try it dropped... it is stable all the time.

You don't have to listen to me... I just want you to get what I am saying now because it works for me...

If you flash a non reference card, with a reference cards bios, you will brick it!!

What make and model card did you have ?
i had a gigabyte 5850 flashed to asus 5850 bios then bricked when flashed to the latest asus 5870 bios, notice that i have flashed it b4 with the old version asus 5870, and it worked, anyway the card was bricked

now i have to choose to buy another 5850 or a 470 gtx,

notice that i had bad stutters with 5850 in some games due to crappy ati drivers?
i need a good reason , out of price and heat and power combustion?

Well I got some interesting results working with Furmark mostly. I was still not able to get the GPU above 890, however, I was able to run FM for 19 minutes b4 I canceled it at 890/1300 1.125v, I then ran OCCT for 16 min @ 1024*768 & 8 shader. It passed with 0 errors, with my current modified fan control the temp stayed at 76C fan speed 63%

Edit: here is the after shot, I changed it to a cropped view so you can read it.

Your doing great! I couldn't even pass 1250 with my 5850 for the mem.

EDIT: Maybe if it is not too loud... you should up the fan curve a bit so it revs up higher.
