BIOS update... update CPU AGESA code... what the heck is that suppose to mean?

Thread Starter
I was checking my CPU support list again trying to find a good CPU upgrade for my sig rig board. Looking at the BIOS tab I noticed a new update was released just a month ago.

Now I know that if it's not broken don't fix it. But dag nabbit bunny rabbit, it's driving me insane trying to find a (decent) quad for this mobo.

Here's the thing that caught my attention: One of the fixes for the recent BIOS update is "update CPU AGESA code". What that suppose to mean? Best I can find is a Wiki answer that didn't give me much of the answer I was looking for. American Megatrend's website was even worst.

Can someone go into further details about AGESA, AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture, for me?

Also, anyone know how to find DETAILS on BIOS update other than "update CPU AGESA code"? I mean, sheesh, can they be anymore brief.

I seriously have no idea, but seeing from your motherboard "CPU Supported List", it does not support any of the Phenom II processor.

What was your intention with this board?

It allows the BIOS to initiate devices on AMD motherboards.
Once again...

Somehow I had a feeling you would have answer to the question. Thanks.

They stopped testing processors on it before Phenoms II even came out. So there's no telling if it really does support any or not. It is listed in specs as AM2 but on box it has a sticker saying "Quad-Ready".

Besides, the thing that's been nagging at me is the limitation of the bus speed at 1 ghz (according to spec sheet).

At this point it looks like I'm just going to be stuck with board for a long time. People keep telling me to save money and get something better later. Problem is, there's no saving money in my account. Once it's there, it's gone. Kids... they eat and poop too much and racks up the medical bills.

I was mostly looking forward to overclocking another CPU as I had fun doing it with this one. Plus I was looking forward to playing some upcoming games coming out this year.
