Problems with Awardflash

Thread Starter
As you can see I have the A8N-SLI Delux MoBo. I have been trying for 3 hours now to flash the BIOS but the whole things is buggy.

First I tried to use awardflash and a boot disk. I got the new BIOS v1016 from the ASUS site. renamed it to a8n-sli.bin and copied it to a disk. Then I put awardflash.exe on the disk. I booted into dos with a boot disk and loaded awardflash. When I typed awardflash after A: it loaded fine but when I typed the bios file name it told me "error disk is write protected" I tried 3 times.

Next I tried to just flash it through windows useing the ASUS EZ Flash utility. I brought out my ASUS suport CD and tried to install EZ Flash but I get this message " no ASUS motherboard detected" WTH????

Ok so I finaly gave up on the EZ Flash solution and went back to trying to do it through a boot disk and the regular flasher. I took the .bin file out of the bios folder and put that on the flash disk instead of the whole file to see if that would work. Instead of the write protected error I got a File not found error.

Anyone been through this?? Help plz.

ASUS Update is what contains the EZ Flash Utility. It wont let me install it. It says no ASUS Motherboard Detected.

Ok I tried winflash and its not working either. It gives me an error saying "File is Not BIOS ROM" whatever that means. Has anyone had this problem before??? This is driving me crazy.

You said in your first post that you renamed the bios to a .bin.
Try either renaming it back to .rom or re-downloading it again.

Tried that Ste. I re-unzipped it a left the name unchanged, it didnt work, same problem. I also tried directly unzipping it into the AWAD file but that didnt work either. I am redownloading the BIOS now. I will post again after I try it.

Ok Redownloaded it. Unzipped it. Didnt rename anything. Same error. I am hesitant to rename the .BIN file to a .ROM file without know what it could screw up. Any info would be great.

Okay, what extension is the file that you've downloaded? It should be either a .bin or a .rom to work

Its a .bin. In winflash it only has two file extensions to chose from when browsing for a BIOS to flash to, .BIN, and all files, so I dont think it has to be or even can be a .rom. I think its trying to tell me that its not a BIOS or something. I dont know......

I have never had a problem like this before. I am about to start beating my head against a wall or something hehehe.

Do any of the other bioses work okay? If they do, I can only think it's an incompatible bios.
