Overclocking a new build

Thread Starter
Hello, Im acquiring assistance with a safe overclocking to my new build. My previous comp. was the good old xp2500+ barton core. I was highly interested in the dual core x2s, but price is something I had to keep in mind.

So now Im running a Athlon 64 3800+ venice core with a Giga K8n neo4 pice.
Other additions are dual channel OCZ 2x512gb premier, radeon x800gt and antec truepower 430.

So im asking if someone has enough experience in overclocking the memory and the processor at relatively high but safe speeds. Well all around overclocking is what I want generally. Thank you for taking the time to read.

I dont know why you spent that money on the 3800+, you could have got something cheaper and much faster. Either way, find your maximum memory speed first, because it's the easiest, then work on the cpu. I would think you could get 2.8.
You need to be more specific about what type of memory you have...model #, timings, etc.....

Copper Heatspreader
400 MHz CL 2.5-3-3-7

Actually, my processor was a deal form a friend, so that's why I considered it. There wasnt anything much cheaper unless I could splurge over dual core x2. Which I have no use for atm. My main goal was to tweek Mb, cpu, memory and maybe the video card but memory was my priority.

Thanks for replying.

I should of re-edited the 1st comment. My bad.

I understood most of the basics of overclocking already since I been doing it for a few years now (5 yrs). Its more like I been trying to search for someone with a same or similar build that could comment on his experience ratio of perfomance/reliabvility factor for this type of build. Or probably certain additions or adjustments I should make to the build for more efficiency.

Of course I could opt for liquid cooling, more efficient casing, better hdd, but atm Im stuck with this until I can start working full time again. I just turned into a student again for 1 more semester. Im strapped for time for the 1st few weeks so I hardly have the time to tweak minutly the settings, testing core voltage or testing fsb speeds at different rates cause i have too much homework and still work part time.

So if someone had already, previously overclocked a similar build, I was curious of his or her settings or adjustments his/she made.

thx

Lets start with a small OC. Going for 2,800mhz. I'm assuming your memory isn't value ram, you should be specific. Input these numbers, and if they work we can go for more.

233 x 12
HTT x 4
Vcore 1.5 - 1.55 (try lower first)
Memory divider 1:1 200 (400)
Memory timings 2.5-3-3-7 1T
VDIMM (mem voltage) 2.7

If you dont undestand these "basic" settings, then you need to read overclocking guides again.
Also post a link to your memory online, say newegg or whever you bought it.

Acutally, my bios is quite limited in settings they allow.

Settings currently at:

Cpu Frequency 214
x center spread center spread
Pcie Clock 110mhz
K8 CPU Clock Ratio x12 (2400mhz)
Robust Graphics Booster Turbo
CPU Voltage Control 1.550v
Normal cpu Vcore 1.5v
Chipset Core Pcie Voltage normal
HT-link coltage control normal
DDR Voltage control +0.2v

Although, cpu frequency holds post 215mhz.
210mhz seems to be the stable zone atm.
