The 4200 is faster by quite a bit but the disadvantage is that the 4200 is only DX 8.1 while the 5200 is DX 9 (sort of).

Nope, the 4200TI beats the 5200.... And DirectX 9.0C is backwards capatable with DX8.1 Cards.

DX9.0c is emulated on the FX series and below cards. They will run DX9.0c apps in DX9.0, but they will not have all of the fancy shaders and floating point thingies that pure hardware DX9.0c cards do. So they are running DX9.0c, but it looks like DX8.1. This is because the FX series cards are capable of emulated software SM2.0, and pure hardware SM1.4 (or 1.3, I can't rember).

The 5200 is alot worse than a 4200. A TI4200 is faster than a 5500 even. I used to have a 5200 so I know how slow they were.
Very nice!

But aren't 4200's SM1.1 based? If so that makes them a lot less powerfull (in terms of shader instructions) than a 5500.
