OK, need someone with the "I know *all* Intel chips..." power

Thread Starter
I am working on some hardware compat stuff, and was just handed a list of computers I need to buy/have built, and honestly, am not up to date on Intel.

And parts of this list do not make much sense to me, so I noted with each what I need help with. Some were easy and I already ordered them - some though I think are just a misunderstanding of the Intel processor line. Basically, in same cases, I think they are talking about the same thing.

First:
Core Solo (Does this exist??)

Second, I think there is mass confusion here - this was the list I was given:
Pentium 4 HT
Pentium 4 HT Extreme
Pentium Extreme
Pentium 4 Extreme

Now. As far as I can tell (but again, I am not smart on such matters) - there are only really two chips up there:
- a Pentium 4 w/HT
- a Pentium EE w/HT

Or is there really a P4 EE vs. a Pentium EE.
Arrgh.

First off, all Extreme Edition processors are P4's, but they are mainly refered to as Pentium 4 EE

As for core solo, uh are you talking about a single core processor?

As for your list, the ones that dont exist are
Pentium Extreme
Pentium 4 Extreme
Pentium 4 HT Extreme

They may be differentiating between the Pentium 4 EE and the Pentium D EE (single core and dual core, respectively).

I guess 'Core Solo' is just 'Not Dual Core'. Hrm?

P4 w/HT - sure
P4 w/HT,EE - sure
Pentium Extreme - 840, 955...
P4 EE - I think avail. only w/HT.

The only reasonably priced one would be just P4w/HT - 5x0, 6x0...nothing else is monetarily reasonable IMHO.

EDIT: Lol, always nice to get conflicting answers.

Ah, now that would make sense.

So there are P4 EE (single) and PD EE (dual).
But they **all** have HT yes?

On the Core Solo - it is a laptop chip - I am guessing. A single variant of the Core Duo? (Like I said, I have no idea, I was just handed a list and told "Buy these")

Oh, your refering to intel's new mobile chip, wait has that even been released? (i think that is based off of the new 65nm tech)

Yes, all EE processors (single and dual) have HT

Yes, all EE processors (single and dual) have HT
uh isn't HT only for single cores?

On the Core Duo - not sure. I sent email to our Intel rep to see where I get that one.

On the HT thing though - all P4 and PD have HT?

So I would remake my list to look like this:
Pentium 4
Pentium 4 Extreme
Pentium D
Pentium D Extreme

Not all P4 have HT (518 and a few others)

Nor do all the P D's only the 955 does...
