Ive been dying to imerge myself into mmo for some time. Is there one coming out soon that you guys are looking forward. Plp gyrate over WOW, Guild Wars... Everqueast, city of villians. Kinda feel I got left behind so Im looking to the next cool MMO. What about D&D Stormreach, Neverwinternights 2, RF online. Or should I seriously consider... what??? Why is it better? Weeeeeeee

There's a demo for D&D online if you want to try it out, but I heard the combat system is retarded. I'm looking at Dark and Light Online to tide me over until something better comes along. None of the soon to be released really grab me at the moment.

I was in the MMO market for quite a while, and at some point, I think I knew more about them, than most of you know about OC'ing. However I've been left behind a bit lately, as they had taken over my life, and I finally got the willpower to quit it altogether. I wouldn't advice you playing WoW. I know most people are praising it to the skies, but I really think, that it's destroyed the whole magic about MMO's. First of all, you can easily level up a character to max level in a matter of two weeks. In my universe, an MMORPG should be playable, with the same character for years, but in WoW people make new characters all the time, as they reach the maximum level. Also, no new features was implemented in WoW over older MMO's really, they just simplified the whole thing (this is a matter of your preferences - I'm just not very fond of it).

Now I think I'm done with my *****ing over WoW, and I can move on to what it's about. I've tried practicly all MMO's (except for the ones released within the least 2 months), and just before I quit the business altogether, I played the game Lineage 2. Lineage 2 has got a deserved bad reputation, as it was kinda bad in the old days. With the newest update (Chronicle 3), they moved the game to the next level though. It's very much like WoW, except that it has way better graphics (again a matter of preference), and actually has provided something new to the whole genre - the greatest PvP (Player versus Player), in the world. Before starting the game, I never really liked PvP in games, but in this game it's brilliant. There is PvP everywhere in the game, but it does have consequences. This adds for perfect gameplay, as the consequences is just enough to not making you attack everybody, but gives you a chance to do better roleplaying, and generally having more fun.

You also speak of RF Online - this is one of the few MMORPG's where my knowlegde is sparse, but I thinks it's very much like Lineage 2 (although I don't know how good the PvP is, as I haven't read up on it). If the PvP is equal to that of Lineage 2, I think you should give it a shot, when it comes out, as a new MMO is always better to start up in - it's really hard to do good, when the community is already tight and everybody has started out, like in Lineage 2... I love being there in the beginning at least

That's my 2 cents, I hope some of you actually read that, and didn't just think, that I'm an idiot

[edit:] Oh and Stevebaz talks about Warhammer Online - although it got cancelled, I think you should watch out on that one too.. I was so excited about it in the old days, I'm not sure if they changed the whole gameplay drammaticly now though.

I just got into the whole idea of MMORPG's myself. I have been playing Dark Age of Camelot (DAOC) for 3 months straight, and am totally hooked. You can level your character relatively quickly, at least the first 20 levels, after that it slows down.... until you reach 50. Then you take your toon to the Frontiers and go PvP/RvR. In this you can in turn up to Realm Rank 13, which takes forever!!! I have a lvl 50 character, with 33 days played time, and is only Realm Rank 5. Its tough, and its long and involved. I think the people are cool as well. It is made by the same company as who is developing Warhammer, Mythic games. On Mythics site there is a free trial you can download. I did that and just BS'd around. You get the feel for the game but you need to buy catacombs to really get into it (catacombs is one of expansions). If you like buy Darkness Rising and you REALLY will get into it. I play on the Classic Servers right now. My friends tell me there very balanced, so thats what I chose and I enjoy it.

Take that for what its worth, 1 MMO newb to another!

World War 2 Online kinda like planetside only much better and it's got the friendliest players you'll ever come across! Also it's the only game where you actually value you life on the battlefield & feel like you are actually in world war 2 fighting massive battles!

I tried some of D&D Online, and the UI is horrible, fighting is okay, the quests are pretty good, chat system is nearly unusable (although I guess that counts as UI), not noob friendly at all (can't figure out how to read item stats) poor performance and okay graphics, dull worlds.... but it's still rather entertaining.

WoW is extremely noob-friendly, has FANTASTIC art design and exciting worlds, great UI, tons of fun quests, Blizzard-style polish (lots of "they thought of everything!" moments), very good pacing (although I agree that you level rather fast, and the higher level instances are EXTREMELY long to get through... I'm talking like, 4 hours.)

Guild Wars is free which is a huge plus, the graphics are awesome, the worlds are pretty good but rather empty, but the fighting is repetitive, you can't jump or go over cliffs or whatnot which is annoying, it's extremely linear, the "Ascension" missions are some of the wost missions I've ever seen (they're extremely hard unless you farm a lot or get really really lucky), and the overall gameplay just gets boring after a month or two (that is if Ascension doesn't stop you from being able to play further).

So between those three, definately WoW
