Suggest awsome MMO, new or current - Page 2

I can see that some of you speak of Guild Wars. Well, they must've changed the game quiet a lot since I last checked it then, because at that time, it was no MMORPG. It was first published as an MMORPG, and everybody freaked out, because it had no monthly fees. However, after many people stated, that it was no MMORPG, even the developers had to succumb and changed the ''genre'' of the game to CORPG (cooperative Online RolePlaying Game). The reason to this is, that the gameplay is basicly that of the Diablo games (which is understandable, Arena.net is based upon people who quit their job at Blizzard North, after making Diablo). You stand in the city, which actually works exactly like the ''Lobby'' in Diablo, except that it's in 3D, which immerses people more. In the city, you choose a team, and a mission, exactly like in Diablo 2, and once you're inside the mission, you're not capable of meeting anyone else than your own group.

So basicly Guild Wars should be compared to games like Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights and Diablo, rather than the MMORPGs. Of course it would stand out among these games, as probably being the best, but in no way would it ever compare to the MMO's. That's like comparing Sim City 4 to F.E.A.R (Exaggerating a bit here ).

Actually I think it's better than WoW. People were mentioning how in WoW people always make new players...well in GW, there's no incentive to do that because, even though you stop at Lvl20, you keep doing stuff. Plus it's fun. And the no monthly fees are a huge bonus.

Other than that, I liked SW: Galaxies. There's a 10 day trial for both that and WoW online.

The SWG trial isn't a trial as such as you can't explore the world it's a waste of a trial!

You speak of Guild Wars. Have they changed the game drammaticly, so my points have become irrelevant? 'Cause if not, I don't see why Guild Wars have to be part of an MMO talk, sorry.

Then to SWG: At the beginning, SWG was actually quiet a great game. However, with the latest updates, they have been destroying the game completely - I'm close to 100% sure it will not live through 2006, so I doubt it would be the greatest MMO to start up with, if you are wanting to commit yourself to a game.

People's opinions vary on Guild Wars, but I've found that a majority of people don't like it that much. As was mentioned earlier, it's not an MMORPG and doesn't feel like one (since you're never in the actual world with other people unless it's a party for a mission), and I just think the gameplay is too repetitive and nothing new at all... the updates they brought out help, but it still feels like a very very basic game to me.

After playing the DDO Stress Test a bit more, I can now safely say that, for me anyway, it's a massive letdown. You sorta get used to the UI, but the real time fighting is a joke, the quests are really boring, team aspects suck, the world is amazingly dull, the graphics look like Morrowind with a glow filter (even on maximum) and there's just nothing that makes it any better than any other MMORPG.

FYI, the developers never had to "succumb" to anything... From the start, they called it a CORPG... It was the public, fans, etc. that tried to label it as a MMORPG...

If that is really the case, then I give you all my sincerest apoligies.

However I am very sure, that it was first shown to the public as a free MMORPG. How far back have you gone? I followed the game, when there were only about 250 accounts on their official forum, and nobody really knew about it, and I'm pretty sure they had it labelled as an MMORPG, but if not: I'm sorry.

Ever since the guys who left Blizzard were able to talk about the game they were developing for NC Soft, they always called it a CORPG... Since before the official betas began, they called it a CORPG

Tho that doesnt mean the reviewers and publishers didnt try to call it an MMORPG tho... I can see why they would want to... classifying it in a genre many people already know about would help them gain some publicity

Another example of the difference between developer and publisher, unfortunately

Well I'm sorry then, I must've gotten it all wrong.. still, it doesn't belong in an MMO discussion. I'll stop hijacking this thread for now though
