FSB frequency?

Thread Starter
Whats the most usual speed on the FBS when u overclock a AMD cpu??
You get it as far as to 250MHz???
Wondering about buying an all new puter, with an 4000+ San Diego.
And I want it to be in a 1:1 ratio with the RAM, so what RAM is suggested so it will be matched???

If it overclocks all the way to 250MHz, wouldnt it be good to buy PC4000 RAM?? (250MHz)

I wouldn't waste your time with the 4000+, as the only differences between that and the 3700+ is the price and the extra multiplier (12 vs 11). If you're planning on getting pc4000 ram then 250*11 = 2750Mhz.
Mushkin Redline pc4000 or OCZ pc4000 VX Gold should do the trick nicely and will probably go a bit further than 250Mhz as well to get you upto around 2.8 Ghz on the CPU, if the CPU will go that far.

You might wish to look at an Opteron. An Athlon 4000+ is a 150 Opteron. These are architecturally and electronically identical however the Opteron faces much more stringent testing than the Athlon since it is a server class chip. The chips that do not pass the Opteron server tests are then tested for Athlon64 workstations. If they do not pass these tests then they are tested for Semprons.

You will very likely achieve a higher and more stable overclock with the Opteron. The percentages are more in your favor.

A 1:1 CPU:RAM ratio is a healthier melding however with the A64 memory controller on chip you will not see the kind of system responsiveness that you would with 1:1 on an Intel system. Still, on benchmarks there will be a difference. A few FPS on some games will quite possibly be the result.
