Do you think I like seeing soo many people buying my identical chip? I think I might have had an influence on the hype, I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only ones with a CABYE. Everyone else just buys things cause other people do...

Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, but the Opteron fad was well in swing before you started preching the wonders of the "OpterOWN" (I'm sorry, but that name is even worse than "Opty," someone please shoot these people). And to be frank, lately at least, I'm seeing/hearing of more San Diegos hitting 3GHz on air than I am Opterons.

Most people over volt them ... the best validated OC, even on the "lame" steppings, are with lower voltage

Perhaps... either way my point remains that A) the fad just needs to die already, when you start renaming processors "OpterOWN" you're boardering on OCD. But more importantly, B) I still have yet to see any large number of results of any of these chips doing 3GHz on air. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my chip, I couldn't have asked for better than 2.8GHz on stock voltage except maybe 3GHz. But it doesn't matter to me if Opteron or Athlon 64 is etched on the heatspreader, it's still the same CPU on the inside and it's all luck of the draw. And the only truly good results I have seen out of these chips were on phase change, and well, anyone with half a brain can get exceptional overclocks at sub-zero temperatures.

I relate the Optys relative to the Athlons as a comparison to The Barton vs the Barton M series being the core is better in some production and not in others and the premium require less voltage. Just a comparison IMHO!

I dunno, I think that's a pretty brazen comparison. And I've never seen any real meat to prove any of this. It's just like every time AMD released a new core, some reviewers and those guys over at XS () get some sky-high overclocks (neglecting of course to run any sort of stability measurement save more maybe Super Pi), then everyone gets in a frenzy and has to have one with very few getting the same good results, just "average." Then average is redefined and something becomes the new "standard" CPU until something new comes out. Maybe I'm just not easily impressed or maybe I'm not seeing enough results, but I don't see the Opterons to be of anything special unless you were one of the lucky ones or those that paid a premium for a good chip. And even then, I'm still finding the numbers of people that got 3GHz on air STABLE (by my standards) strikingly few. And all the while, no one buys San Diegos any more except for a select few, and these few get great clocks. I really can't imagine the Opterons being any better of a chip than the Athlon 64s, I think it's just evidence of overall AMD's fab is improving on all chips.

I was very happy with my 144. I got it to 2.7 easy, it was on par with the FX 55. I think they're great, but nothing to hate your current computer.
