New i7 Build, would like some input! - Page 3

Thread Starter
Updated the first post for the semi-final build.. I will be going with the 5850 due to price issues unless my brother has a change of heart.

Only concern now is the motherboard. Asus P9T Deluxe v2 has some very worrying reviews on NewEgg =\\

EDIT: ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
A lot better reviews, and almost the same price, any thoughts? It's out of stock on the Canadian site though, however I will probably order it off the american site along with some other stuff.

Good futureproofing for +$20 is a great investment, I'd say. Though I'd say your worrying over the P6T reviews is unnecessary - it's got a 62% 5-egg review, and you've also got to consider that the P6T is probably the most popular of all the X58 boards, so there's a much larger customer base, in which there's a much wider range of people in which reviews are coming from. Someone's bound to have problems somewhere, don't let that get you down.

I'm not sure what youre talking about cause my H50 is taking care of my i7 920 just fine. The H50 does just as well as high end air coolers. If you get one, try to set it up as an intake if you can as push pull, you will get the best performance out of it that way. Unfortunately, mine wouldn't reach in my case, and I'm waiting on a slim 120mm to set up the push/pull for my radiator.

whats your definition of fine? my balls itch at anything above 60 i know people say 90c is the max with the x58 core i7, and double checking here, i am thinking and talking about the same thing here right? the water cooling unit? or is that a different acronym? (seriously i cant do acronyms or random strings of letters)

Fine as in I was only pulling about 62c max while running prime95 overclocked at 3.85GHz running for 8hrs+ and usually at under 32c idle. Running stock I wasn't above 50c. Go read the water cooling forums, there are tons of people that swear by them. I'm not even getting max performance out of it because I had to setup my radiator fan as a pull because of clearance issues until I can order a slim fan.

Going with mobos that support USB 3.0 and Sata 6GB/s isn't a bad idea, but from what I've been reading, at this time you can't boot off of the Marvell controller, which renders the Sata pointless imo. The only drives that can take advantage of Sata 6GB/s are the new SSDs that will be coming out and if you can't boot off of them all youre going to get is fast data transfers with a slow OS. I was going to go with a Gigabyte mobo with USB 3.0 and Sata 6GB/s but that was a deal breaker for me so I went with a better mobo. Just my 2 cents.
