The elusive 2.8ghz

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I fairly new to overclocking and am trying to get my san diego core 4000+ to 2.8Ghz, I've tried various different setting, but the highest stable speed I can get using the stock HSF is 2750Mhz, after that i can still boot to windows at 2.8Ghz and higher, but during this it fails when I stress test in prime95.

My current stable settings are:
HTT 250 x11 2750
HTT x4
ram running at ddr 266 (As there is no memory divider option on this mobo)
vcore 1.5 (max 1.55 on this mobo)
Dram voltage 2.70

As soon as I up the HTT(fsb) the system fails in prime 95, have tried upping the vcore for stability, but this doesn't help, have tried taking the htt multiplier down to x3 and have tried various settings with a lower cpu multiplier, but none seem to help it through prime 95

my temps are 40c at idle and 52c in prime, is this a temperature issue or can I squeeze a little bit more out of the stock HSF? on the subject of cooling does anybody have some suggestions, I was looking at buying a Zalman CNPS 9500, cause i was so chuffed with the perfomance and noise level of the VGA cooler I bought from them.

Is this the end of the road for me and my san diego, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
MossMan

A bit more cooling or voltage might help.
And then again it might not.
There is a volt mod for that board thats pretty simple.

Cheers guys

could someone please post a link to the voltage mod for my mobo cause i can't seem to find it.

On another note, what is an acceptable temperature for the northbridge chipset, cause i put a passive zalman jobby on it the other day, and it now runs as hot as 46c when stressed

Here's some settings for 2.8. You do have a memory divider, it's listed as "max memclock" and it's found in your DRAM configuration

255 x 11
HTT x 4 or 3
Vcore 1.55 (max)
Memory timings 2.5-3-3-7 (1T)
Dram voltage 2.7
Max memclock 333 (memory divider)

Thanks on the memory divider tytlyf

Havn't had a chance to try your settings yet, but am currently stress testing
HTT242 x 11
vcore 1.55
Memory 333 @ 2.7

and it seems to be working apart from one little thing i don't understand, cpu-z and my system profile are showing my core clock as 2.8Ghz(2805Mhz), and my htt as 244 but in bios i set them to 242

surley 11.5 x 242 = 2783?

is this just cpu-z? or is it becaue i'm using a .5 divider?

Cheers

it's probably just cpuz....use this overclocking calculator for figuring out your speeds before you put anything in the bios..

THe .5x dont effect the RAM, esentially the RAM acts as if the last full integer multiplyer is involked.

The few points is not uncommon... the math is not exact because nothing runs in exactically integers.
