just ordered the Intel 80gb X25-M. How should i be mounting it inside of my Mini P180.
rubber bands?
zip ties?
get 2.5/3.5 adapter and install that inside of a 3.5/5.25 drive bay?

can someone just confirm with me what should be my first thing to do once i power it up?
-flash the FW using intel's .iso boot disc
-then what?

Count me in.
This weekend I installed my first SSD on my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop

Laptop Configuration as follows:
  • T7300
  • 4GB RAM
  • X25-M G2 80 GB (originally was 160GB 7200 rpm Hitachi HDD)
  • NVidia 8600M GT
  • Vista Ultimate x64

So far, I love the responsiveness and it looks like the battery is indeed lasting longer than it did whith the 7200 rpm HDD, but I'll chack as I use it.

Another thing is that it seems that it works so quiet that I can now hear a very light high pitch noise, which I was not able to hear before.

During installation, I had to load Intel drivers, because MSFT's did not work (BSOD after 1st boot)

If you just ordered it, it should already come with the new firmware. If you bought it with the retail package, it has a 3.5 to 2.5 bracket so you can install the SSD on normal HDD slots. After that, set it as your boot drive and install your favorite OS on it.

Ah in that case, you have to either get a 2.5 to 3.5 converter or just attach it somehow to your case. I taped mine in the back of my mobo tray =)
