New Build Assembled, Now what?

Hey Guys,

This is the first time I've built a computer from scratch. All assembled. No problem, familiar with all that. What now though?

I figure power on, load MoBo drivers, setup RAID on my two 100GB SATA drives, load Windows and then any other neccessary drivers. That about the jist of it?

How do I setup a RAID 0 array? I've never done that before.

Specs on New Build: ASUS A8N-VM, Athlon 64 3700+, 512x2 Corsair DDR 400 PC2300, x2 100GB Maxtor 7200rpm 8MB Cache SATA, VGA eVGA GeForce 6800 256 PCI-e

Read in your manual about making a raid disk. You need a floppy drive to do it. It should be somewhere in your bios menu and you hit create raid disk. Then when windows is loading hit f3 to load 3rd party raid sata drivers and it should go from there. I had trouble setting mine up though party because my floppy drive broke.

Wow we have the same board! I just saw that! Wait that board was from your old rig.

No, my old rig is still the one I am using. This new one is for a friend. How do you like your ASUS K8V ? Which BIOS version are you using?

sorry to get off topic on my own thread. Nothing in my manual about how to setup RAID. Only regaurds to RAID are how to Enable it in the BIOS. Is that all I need to do? Enable it and away it goes?

Any other advice would be greatly appriciated.

first enable it in the bios, then when you are starting to setup windows, look at the bottom of the screen, it will prompt you to hit a key "F8" or something to setup Raid. Just have that RAID floppy on hand and give it a go.

Your motherboard should have a RAID floppy disk that came with it. If it didnt, then you need to find the RAID drivers for your chipset online (asus website) and put them on your floppy.
