I was using the fsb at say 250 with a 250 mem divider and you say that seemed to be UNDERCLOCKING the ram....that makes sense
If your ram can run 280 mhz, then leave Memclock on 200. Your ram will run at whatever you set your htt to as long as you're not using a .5 cpu multiplier. With your equipment, I think your goal should be 2.8ghz with ram at 280.

Thanx, I'll try setting back to 200 divider tonite and with fsb at 280 and 10x cpu mult.

okay first thing first drop that LDT multi down to 3x no need to be limiting your overclock by fooling around with the 4x htt rate,,,,

next the nuber on the divider like they said doesnt mean as much as the ratio,,, so 180 is 9/10 ,,, 166 is 5/6 and 200 is 1/1,,,

You just obviously cant run higher then you know for a fact your ram can handle,,,

Also sccr64472 might feel comfortable with 1.7volts on air but that is extremly high for air to be honest,,, most wont even go over 1,6 if they are not on water,,,

more important then your volts is your temps however, which leads us to our next issue,, most mobo;s dont report opteron temps correctly so some people overvolt,,,, just be carefull with your volts you should need insane voltage to get a 148 past 2.7 unless you have a really bad stepping,,,

best of luck

I have the CACJE stepping (probably all that is left on the market...all the good ones are gone the way it seems). Not the greatest from what I hear for steppings......

I would be afraid to go over 1.6 although 1.5v to me is a little more comfortable. I think I'll try to get to 2.8 or so stable and quit, even if that means using 2.55vcore

that chip will do 2.8 like a breeeeze. Post a link to your memory also, or where you bought it. It might be the UCCC chips that dont like voltage. So you wouldn't want to increase it over 2.6...preferably 2.5vdimm. Try these numbers first.

255 x 11
HTT x 4
Vcore 1.5
Mem divider 200
Memory timings default
Memory voltage 2.5-2.6 (2.5 if your mobo has option)

If this boots, change your first settings around to 280 x 10, and HTT x 3.

If this doesnt work, it's your memory.

HI TYTLYF - Thanx for your reply!

Here's a link to my memory from Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231021

It definitely has the UCCC chips in it. The specs call out for 2.6v to 2.8v. You're saying maybe use 2.5v?

So you've heard good things about OC'ing the CACJE stepping?

I'll try these settings tomorrow. I'm at work right now. Thanx!

Yes, if you can use 2.5vdimm to start with. Make sure you have memtest to test for memory errors, it will be very important when finding your maximum memory capabilities.
To me, all steppings of the opterons are good, I haven't seen any bad yet. People say CABGE, but show me one?!? Noone gets those.

Read my post again. I'd never run 1.7 on air 24/7 and I don't suggest anyone else do so. You must've read my post wrong.

Yes, if you keep Memclock Index Value at 200, your ram will run whatever speed you have your htt set to (unless you use a .5 cpu multiplier). Take a look at this if you're ever unsure about ram speed with different Memclock Index values.

thought you said there rule of thumb to use was 1.7,,, which is crazy im not sure what you are refering to then,,,

1.7 on air is the absolute limit, regardless of temps, but I wouldn't run that high for everyday use. What's meant by that is you can run 1.7 for some benchmarks, etc but using it on a daily basis is simply too much voltage for the transistors in your cpu. They weren't designed to switch on/off with that much voltage. Many people are commonly misled into believing that they can use any voltage they choose as long as temps are ok and that's simply not true. On a side note, I actually got to "fry" cpus at National SemiConductor while I was an intern and it was hella fun lol. I had to chart at what point they'd breakdown, so my job was literally to fry cpus all day
