But its a skill which is a nice thing to have. Therefore,

The "Visually" book series is really nice.

I believe the name of the book is "Learning Html Visually"

I could be mistaken though. Its a really good book, tons of pictures and elaborations.

Edit:

I was mistaken,but heres a link.

Is dreamweaver something like MS's Frontpage?

MS Frontpage i take to be a entry level html writing program where as DreamWeaver is for more advanced. It is the equivilant to the real Photoshop, mainly because it is also made by Adobe.

I too am in your exact shoes, and JUST started messing around with Frontpage lastnight and it is fairly simple and straight forward. I have heard that the ''whatever'for Dummies Series' is actualy a descent book to help.

Goodluck with your ambition to design a webpage.

Actually Dreamweaver was made by Macromedia, Adobe recently bought them.

It is my firm belief that a text editor is the best way to learn HTML. Get yourself a good reference book- I like the WROX series. Then just start building simple pages in notepad (or Ultraedit if you want something i bit more advanced). Once you have the simple stuff down start adding more complex ideas to your work. Using a tool like Dreamweaver only makes you Dependant on it for future use. Some of the "cookbook" style books also makes you morph your design ideas to their examples. I have been coding for a long while now, and the people that "know" what they are doing can use notepad just as easily as dreamweaver (albeit possibly not as fast). You just have to ask yourself if you want to learn how to code, or just make a webpage. Those are two totally different things. If you want to learn how to code, you need to start with the basics, and don't let a program write for you.

For anybody that wants to learn HTML this is a great guid, thats how i learned the basics. I still use it every now and then for reference. Also, this is great for reference if you forget something or just dont know it while you are making your site. I know they arent books, but you could print them out or something.
