So much is wrong! Asus A8N32-SLI - Page 2

These are all such valid questions! Firstly, I was selling my friend my 7800GTX, because then I could give him a good deal - I wanted to make sure he had a computer that would work for a long time. I mean, his graphics card is so old, I don't even know the name - except that it is 32MB and has 'RAGE' somewhere in it.

So I figured I'd upgrade to a Radeon to give them a try. I used driver cleaner, but it's still VERY unstable, so I'm going to assume it's the HDD.

As for the motherboard, it doesn't make sense to upgrade to a SLI board with a Crossfire card. Essentially, I wanted a borad that had more than 2.8vDimm. turns out, after I ordered it, I don't need 2.8vDimm. In fact, my RAM runs DDR500 1T, all settings tightened on only 2.6V, which means that that upgrade may have been slightly frivioulous.

HOWEVER, I will say that most of the time it appears solid as a rock, and I have never had to reset the BIOS yet. This is just as well, as the jumper is so badly placed

Thanks again guys

Not so hot, actually. His computer is working well enough, considering it's newborn. Mine...

Well, I formatted the harddrive, and have managed to install nearly all the drviers: Only the sound card, which refuses the recognise itself it is inserted.

HOWEVER, it is STILL taking a long time to load up! I cannot reliably guarantee it will load up in less than two minutes. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and to be honest I have no idea why.

I suspected it might be because the default clock multiplyer APPEARS to be 8x. 8x200 = 1600, which would explain the slowness. However, overclocking it to 250 (10x250) seems to make no difference. i'm running out of ideas fast: exactly what would cause the windows loading screen to take so long?

have you disabled cool n' quiet in the bios becuse that would make the cpu slow at stock are you still getting slow boot times after you reformated

An add on sound card? Did you disable the onboard sound in the BIOS?
If my questions are valid ... that may be the source of the slow boot up... along wuith the Cool N Quiet as already stated!

The onboard sound is still on... because it's the only sound I have. My sound card isn't so keen to install it right about now.

I'll get the latest nvidia chipset drivers. I have only JUST regained the internet, so I didn't have a chance. PC Wizard seems to think my chipset is a 410/430, though - isn't that integrated graphics? Uh oh

I've seen XP do that before with ram problems.

You might want to drop back and try and isolate the prob.

Reformatting / Reinstalling really doesn't help IMO. I ran the same install on my old +2400 setup for years. There is usually a simpler solution.

Well I have a prob whith stability to, i just cant get my pc stable at 250x10. Becuase i saw that you had gskill rams and i have to i thought maybe thats the prob, and after ive put in my dads rams (pc2700, no-name) my system was prime stable for 32 hours (i then shut it off myself) whith the gskill rams whith rated timings for 275 (and running at 250mhZ) @ 2.85 vollts vdimm i got an error in prime after 16 hours, now im gonna try whith 2.95 vollts

So if i where you try some other rams if you can borrow them from somewhere.

Make sure you have the 1009 bios for the board as well. I had some problems with 0703 (that the board shipped with). the 0903 is supposed to be stable as well.

alright not to sound off topic but I have an Asus A8n32 and I bought a Maxtor Dimondmax SATA and when I put it in it can only read not write? I think its an imcompatibility between this drive and the nVidia chipset? did anyone hear of this and is there a way to fix it? cause I want the Dimondmax to be my primary hard drive but I keep having soo many problems with it
