1gb+256mb=1gb ram?

Thread Starter
Ok, So I upgraded my cousins Compaq Presario pc because he complained it was running too slow. Originally the computer had 256mb of ddr2 533mhz. I bought a stick of generic kingston 1gb ram.

I installed it in the computer and expected it to show 1.2gb ram. Instead, it only showed 1gb under system properties but cpuz shows the full 1280mb of ram.

Can someone help me to get the full amount of ram to show on the computer please?

He has onboard video, but it uses 64mb. Not 256mb.

It could be that the two different sticks are not compatible.

Are both of the sticks rated at the same speed/voltage? The BIOS could have defaulted to the 1GB stick automatically.
