3700+

Dfi lan party ultra-D or SLI-D if youre gonna sli (mobo)

step up to a 7800GT if you can, or else go with a 6800GS.

get a sunbeam NUUO or antec truepower II 550W.

for the case, just gonna go with another thermaltake soprano from monarch since they are local and i wont have to pay shipping.

already bought a 6600gt agp from them friday, so ill just return it for a pcie card.

total is 835.75 without the case, which is 84 bucks so 919.75 total. i can afford this because i forgot i just sold a car part and got 135 for it

now will this sytem outperform my current one or no? cause if not, im not gonna get it...

That gigaram RAM... probably won't work. The DFI LP boards are VERY picky about the memory. So if you want something with the same price that is insured to work(on the www.dfi-street.com recommendations list), get the G.SKILL 2x1gb GBHZ.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231021

It also overclocks very well for a 2x1gb set. Mine gets up to 275mhz stable.

That's a good system, although i would suggest better ram...you are going ot have to run a very high htt if you want to keep a 1:1 ratio which will definitely improve performance. This looks great
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231021

Also....you may want to look into getting a stronger power supply....stock amd heatsink are pretty good...so if you haven't bought the TBTT already, you could hold off on that and get a stronger power supply. Having enough, stable power is important to OCing also. As for performance comparisons, AMD's loose comparison system is obvious....an AMD 3700 is supposed to be comparible to a pentium running at 3.7ghz, and that's with the amd's stock speed of 2.2ghz, the latest steppings of 3700's are OCing very well right now, many getting 3.0+ ghz on air...

edit: amped beat me to it

Great, that thing will beat down your intel system no questions asked. Especially if you overclock.

cant wait to get it all. just have to sell this system first, which the guy is coming by monday to get it. he also wants me to build systems for his work lots of extra cash and fun building them!

is there anything i should know about connecting an sata hard drive? do i need to alter any of the bios settings or flash it before it will work properly?

Now that the opterons are just slightly cheaper than the 3700 I went with the 3700 because I just felt that my oc would be more ''guaranteed'' than with the opteron, but with the opteron people have hit 2.8 3ghz with much less voltage than with the 3700. I don't think that affects performance much if any at all, but it means you can oc the opteron with a pretty weak cooling. Then again I get 40c load on my 3700sd with my xp-90c and a tornado, so te choice is yours.
