Now before any of you guys think I am trying to start a flame war here (not!!)I am a little peeved, After years of being a die hard Intel fan I just upgraded my system (or so I thought) from the one in my sig to

a8n sli deluxe mobo
x2 4400
2gb crucial ram
300gb diamond max 10 sata

and guess what...... its slower than my old p4 pressie system in every benchmark!!!! now even I know that something smells a tad fishy here, come on guys tell me I didn't throw my hard earned cash away, what am I missing??? (is there a turbo switch you amd guys aint tellin me about?)

Dunno what to tell ya then. The only reason I pick AMD over Intel is I prefer not to have a blast furnace in my case. The performance differences aren't that great.

Something isn't set right, keep looking around. Post a screenshot of cpu-z, so you can see what your machine is actually running at.

There is something wrong with your system if you find such a comparison. Your Athlon is a faster system by far than the Intel ones.

I have both in my household. A P5AD2-E Premium with i630 @ 4.0GHz and the Opteron in my sig.

They are very close in normal productivity suite testing. I mean how fast can one scroll through Excel anyway? However, when gaming and testing there is no doubt that the Athlon (in my described systems) is a good ~15 - 20% faster than the Intel jobbie.

As, I said, something is not right.

What kind of benchmarks are you running anyway? If they're just simple single-threaded benchmarks and you're comparing a stock X2 4400+ to an overclocked Prescott, yeah there's not gonna be a big difference and the X2 will probably be slower. Overclock the X2 and or do some multi-threaded benchmarks and then you'll see the difference.

I had a p4 3.4 with a DFI board (875P-T) and 6600GT, and went to the Asus A8N-SLI Premium and (initially) a single 6600GT with a 3700+ san diego cpu. (RAM, HDD and all else the same). All my benches went up between 10 and 20%.
