Are there any good overclocks on these yet? I upgraded from a D 820 to this and i wanted to get between 4.0 and 4.5 stable on air in my btx case.

really dont see 4.5 happening without water. shoot, 4ghz is going to be pushing it.

edit: been doing research and it seems that 4.5 is very attainable with water, and up to 5ghz still on water... im going for 4.2 on air when my stuff gets here.

really on xtremesystems.com theres guys on there pushing 4.5's all day with D 920's
And they have a stock clock of 2.8 opposed to my 3.2 stock clock.

you telling me 1.7ghz clock is easier to get than a 400mhz clock on a superior chip?

yeah dude, i used to have D, u'l need water for 4.0, and phase for 4.5

its just that they run hot on stock, so u'll be killin it with 4.0 on air

A 940 should easily overclock to 4.2ghz, as long as you keep it cool. SOme clock as high as 4.8ghz on water, some lower and top out at around 4ghz...but 4ghz shouldn't be a problem at all. Since they are 65nm, they do overclock much better then the 8xx series D's

All of you saying it won't clock past 4GHz are missing the 940 part, meaning its a Presler core meaning it is 65nm, you should do 4.2-4.4 on stock air cooling, 4.8 with water sounds reasonable. Just be sure to stick it into a 975x mobo since those are the Intel kings of high overclocks.

As long as your PSU is quality and you have a good overclocking motherboard and half decent RAM then 4GHz should be easily attainable.

Thanks for the replies guys. I figured 4ghz would be fairly easy. Since the chip runs cooler than the 8xx serious i upgraded from. Too bad i might have to wait for a new mobo, since im running a btx setup. But im thinking i might give software overclocking a try once my 4gb's of ram arrive nest week.

But what do you guys think of my current setup, inside my btx case its like a wind tunnel in there. I've upgraded all the stock fans as well as added that mad dog 600w psu. I went with mad dog opposed to an ocz psu because they're local and it seemed to be pretty high quality with a lesser known name.

oh and yeah my mobo is using the 945g express chipset

But i plan on upgrading to a new btx mobo once asus, msi or gigbite release theirs sometime soon

Thanks for the compiments

its the xms2 5400c4 675mhz Link to it in my sig.

Its not the best stuff but i was trying to keep a budget when it came to ram. If i didnt have a budget i'd definatly go with the 4gb of 8000ul
