It's, basically, a new form factor for motherboards.......as was mentioned, it's designed to make better use of less cooling.......among other things.

BTX - The Basics

I've got a BTX system, Intel D915GMH mobo, 3 GHz CPU. The rest of it is just normal stock, I'm using the integrated video. The case is I don't know. I ought it at an Intel resellers conference about 8 months ago. I use it as my home system.

i think itll be dead in no time. Chips are getting smaller and producing less heat there will be no real need for it. The only reason dell and gateway use it is cause A) Intel pioneered it so theyll push it B) they like it quiet and thats the only thing it offers

It will only be dead if something better comes along. (mini ITX?). The ATX form factor is over 10 years old!!!!! That's a thousand years in computer time!

Additionaly, there is a big push in the HTPC market, and that is where the low noise aspect of BTX could be huge.

Dead? been to

www.hpshopping.com

www.gateway.com

www.dell.com

Lately?

Trying to find a non BTX desktop from them is like trying to find a unicorn.

Its just getting started. It will be enthusiasts that keep atx around longer.
But btx will be in just about every office.

Hmm...Let me throw this by you all....What will AMD do? Their chips are notorious for low heat output...So will they move too?

you think BTX cooling is good, sure it keeps your CPU cool, but it makes my video card suck hot air, so by video cards overheat

EDIT: Yes i have a gateway BTX system
