Punishment for DDOS attack

Thread Starter
My gameservers, and the whole hosting company have been under a DDOS attack after IP banning some hackers, they used rcon blockers etc.

Its been reported and we have IP's, but what punishment comes for denial of service?

Very little ever comes of DDOS, it's not worth the time and effort. Best course of action is to change IP's on the box (or have your GSP do it) and then hope it all works itself out.

If they continue to do it, it will be deemed a little more serious and you can perhaps have the GSP report them to the authorities if needs be.

Well the hosting company is small, and the owner told me he reported it to the datacenter, i was just curious what the bastards can get.

prolly nothing... unless you have proof who actually did it and so on... usually the owners are pretty helpless unless they had someone record the stuff happening with completed ip traces

DDOS them back.

That's what I do. I always win. Especially with the IT teacher and Computer teacher as a friend. Using pretty much the entire school and servers to DDOS. US government at it's best.

Don't you hate people sometimes? I wonder if you can complain to those people's ISP's? Otherwise if you really pursued it you can probably try and grab IP addresses, logs, etc, then go try and get a subpoena for the people's names, then take them to court.

Pretty much... nothing. At least if they were smart about it. If not, and you do track them, you can get the law involved at either the state or federal level. Alternatively, contact the ISP the IP Addresses came from and ask them about the information and report them.
