Been using AMD products since about 2009 when I moved into my new house.
My Intel mobo crapped on me and I when I went searching for something new, I just got the same old song and dance from the search results
You'll need a new mobo , ram, etc etc...
Having JUST bought a new set of XMS DDR2 (2 x 1GB, 4 total in system), this was not an option.
The local CompUSA (Tigedirect, etc) led me to an AMD X2 550BE that supported DDR2 & DDR3 for later. he also led me to an excellent Gigabyte mobo which was Micro ATX and supported 4 DIMMS, which means i didn't have to sacrifice my 4X 1GB DIMMS.
Did I end up getting a new CPU and mobo anyways...Yes, but something that will last mew a few years and let me upgrade on it, and by upgrade, I dont mean throw out the whole set.
A few months ago I upgraded that board and was able to get a new budget board, which is a little featureless, but I only do gaming, ripping and encoding, not much else.
I popped that 550BE in the socket and BOOM! works great, never skipped a beat. I was able to plug in my HDDs with no problems and use the OS (Win7 X64) without a hitch, but I did a clean install regardless.
Can I afford intel? Yes, I can, but I cannot stand not being able to use my older hardware like I am able to with my AMD products.
As for GPUs, well I chose my GPU based on price. I have been extremely satisfied with my 5670 and plan to upgrade in the next few months staying in the ATI/AMD family. That was an upgrade from a passive 9400GT
Short story long, yeah I guess I'm an AMD fanboy, but not the type to go flame a thread...
