Thinking of getting an X1900XT - Page 2

Hey Hyrox I was just viewing your public profile and I noticed that you have your
Graphics card core speed at 275MHz and oced it is 300MHz. I think what you have oced really is the 2D part and not the 3D part

What if I got it through a manufacturer; not self-built?

Looking at the components in your rig, you probably bought from Alienware, right? The ALX? (Just a guess.)
As long as you have a valid recipt that proves you purchased the card, you can step up to any other card (Within 90 days.). If I were you, I'd get the GTX 512, just becasue you probably have the money, and that it will not be very far off from the ATI at all.
If eVGA cannot supply you with a 512, don't get the plain GTX, just get the 1900. It will not be worth it to go from a GT to GTX.
As a matter of fact, if you can, return the Pre-built and build your own. For that same price, you will get a much better rig. That is a fact. (Unless you have connections.)

So with step up, I'd be paying the difference between the 7800GTX512 and the 7800GT?

Well, actually, the computer I'm thinking about doing this is an Alienware, but it's not the comp in my specs; it's one that my friend is either giving me or selling to me for $200. It has an X2 4800, 1 GB dual channel low latency ram, Geforce 7800GT, integrated 7.1 surround sound. I hear they are easily expandable and from looking at the inside of the case, it would seem so. I'm thinking about getting the X1900XT, a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty, and another 1 GB of ram in the next 2-4 months for it. Anyone have any opinions on what order I should apply these upgrades in?

In the end, their step up program forces you to spend what you'd be spending if you were to sell yours and buy one on your own. They charge you full suggested retail when you get the new one.

You are getting all that for $200!!!
Wow, that is one hell of a deal. Like I said, connections.
I just noticed though, you are not eligible for the step up program. See eVGA. Becuase you will get an Alienware, you are not eligible for the step up, but still buy that system. Hell, if he has two, I'll buy the other.
Get the 1900XT if you cannot wait for the 7900.

I would probably rather wait for the 7900, but I heard it's going to cost
$1000+, is that true?
